I noticed the 99 CENT store on Main Street is NO MORE!
Interesting that those whom this Store would have frequented such an establishment, fail to support it and keep this establishment profitable enough to stay opened!

Across the street is "Savings World," a merchandise liquidator. They are more like a "Big Lots" than a Dollar store. Losing that one, though, would also help improve the landscape. It occupies the centerpiece of our retail community and should be an attractive lure.
What you are seeing downtown, in recent weeks - some new vacancies - should not be misinterpreted, as a bad thing. Rather, it should be viewed as an "opportunity" to revitalize the downtown - bringing in some interesting retailers that will succeed. This does not happen by accident - it takes planning. Everyone must be aggressive and jump on this with both feet.
The town's attention must now shift to the FCP and their plans to address the issues of business recruitment and retention. They must be honest with us - especially if they need help with this critical effort (bringing in retail leasing consultants??). Council will stay on top of this and take the appropriate actions to safeguard the downtown's future.
During tonight's public comments, some of you might drive home the importance of the issue. Let's energize this issue. We've been waiting for the opportunity to remake the downtown for quite some time. The vacancies give us something to offer retailers.
Last Friday, I myself recruited someone with exciting potential, who is interested in buying a building; opening a great retail store and bringing in some other upscale tenants they partner with or know. These people are already talking to the right people in town. Let's hope things work out for them...and for us.

Marc Help me with some VC money and I can put in a few REAL WINNERS on Main street.. How about a "CLASSY" Billiards (Maybe a few in door bochi ball courts too)- Coffee House zoned for a SMALL quartet size stage and a few INTERNET terminals as well as a WIFI hot spot...TO START. More to the point Marc is making...is it possible that there is slight reversal in the residential renting trends? Are there a few more vacant apartments around the Boro? With the cold setting in and construction business slow...are the migrants starting to leave?
