The following was posted on the Freehold Voice facebook site:
Many people take for granted the value of having such a good hospital, like CentraState, right in our backyards because many do not know its history. Before the establishment of CentraState, patients needed to endure long ambulance or car rides to hospitals upwards of 30 minutes away in order to receive care for their injuries or illnesses. As with all situations of healthcare, time is of the essence and because of this distance between a patient and a hospital many people did not make it. This concept is scary, but it is also inspiring.
It took the community 10 years to raise enough money to build what we know today as CentraState Medical Center, but they were wiling to work in order to make this happen because they new how much of a necessity this was. This fundraising has been non-stop since it began 50 years ago. As a part of this fundraising, people of all ages were able to get involved with CentraState’s Queen of the Ball contest. The Queen Contestants were responsible for raising money for the hospital fund. For every dollar they raised, a vote was cast. The contestant that received the most votes (raised the most money) at the end of the contest, was crowned Charity Ball Queen.
I am a queen contestant for this year’s ball. When the contest began, there were 10 girls and I am lucky enough to be a part of the top 3. For the top 3 contestants, donations are open from now until Saturday, October 21st. I am doing my best to make a difference in our community and have raised over $3,000 at this point, but I need your help to continue my efforts. Please support me as I work to bring this new Radiation Therapy Center to our area by making a donation of any kind. Donations are being accepted in the form of cash, service or gift certificates to a business or restaurant. If you are unable to donate at this time, I encourage you to pass along this opportunity to make an impact on our community on to your friends and family. We have the ability to truly make a difference, once again, as a community in funding this cancer center.
Donations can be pledged online at www.centrastatefoundation.org/danielle_piccolini/, over the phone at 732-294-7099 or checks can be sent to the Foundation directly with my name in the memo line to:
