Tonight the planning board will hear the proposal for the 7-11. The meeting is at borough hall @ 7 pm.
Now that the democrats have turned this into a political and partisan issue, it will be interesting to see how this bad idea unfolds. Readers should now be aware that the mayor, El presidente George Schnurr and other dems think this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. ( Councilman Sims appears to be the lone dem with common sense on this)
People of higher intelligence and who have a better vision for the borough realize this is not in the towns best interest. A 7-11 will not be an attraction and will do nothing for helping with economic development. Being a high traffic business, it will also cause traffic problems at one of our worst intersections and may cause problems for the first aid squad. This does not fit into any vision study. It will be a muster zone.
Wish I could be there, but I do hope people show up and voice strong opposition.

This is such a bad idea. That intersection is one of the most busiest in this small town. It's already a nightmare if your trying to cross on spring street. People don't know where to go half the time as it is. They get caught in the middle of the intersection when the light changes. Reminds me of grid lock in Manhattan. I can just imagine the accidents a 7-11 will cause.

Not only is the idea of 7-11 at one of the busiest locations in the Boro, there are other problems with idea.
1. It was reported that one of the council members stated it will create jobs. My question is for who? Most likely as with many convenience stores, they are usually staffed by family memebers.
2. Is this the first impression of driving into town from Rt. 79/Broadway we want visitors to see?
3. A new 7-11 was just opened on Rt. 9 in Freehold Township on the corner of Craig Rd and there is another 7-11 on Schank Rd. in Freehold Township, do we need a third one in the area?
4. At my last count, there are approximately 6 "bodegas"/convenience stores in the Boro, seems like over satuation of this type of business. Two of these establishments already exist on Main St, one on Throckmorton St., 2 on Broad St., one on Park Ave./Rt. 33. Additionally there is a grocery store located on Main St and another located on Broad St. in Boro Plaza. Do we really need more? Seems to me we have plenty of these establishments already in the Boro.
5. Do we really want to create another possible muster zone?
6. How does this proposal fit with quality of life for the Boro?
7. I believe the Council's plan for the Boro does not fit with allowing a 7-11.
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend tonight's meeting as I have class tonight. I urge residents to attend this meeting and voice their opinion on this matter. Our voices need to be heard.

Ess, very good thoughts. I have to add a couple of things here. Your words in blue. 1. It was reported that one of the council members stated it will create jobs. My question is for who? Most likely as with many convenience stores, they are usually staffed by family members.Absolutely right. There will be no job creation and in the big picture we ned to see real jobs created here. Not just low end minimum wage jobs. 2. Is this the first impression of driving into town from Rt. 79/Broadway we want visitors to see?No kidding! The urban blight we have stared at for over ten years is bad enough. This is one issue where the FBAC mural project is far better than anything else we have seen proposed at that location. 3. A new 7-11 was just opened on Rt. 9 in Freehold Township on the corner of Craig Rd and there is another 7-11 on Schank Rd. in Freehold Township, do we need a third one in the area? There is also a 7-11 on 79 in Marlboro, not far from the borough. When looking at that in context, a person cannot get into the borough without hitting a 7-11 first! 4. At my last count, there are approximately 6 "bodegas"/convenience stores in the Boro, seems like over satuation of this type of business. Seems to me we have plenty of these establishments already in the Boro.Maybe another hair solon or bail bondsman? On a serious note, this just shows how uninteresting the borough has become outside of the restaurants. When I moved here, the town was far more interesting with a strong antique market through out. When other downtowns got better, we went backwards. Great vision. 5. Do we really want to create another possible muster zone?Is it safe to say that the whole town is a muster zone? That means 7-11 will be too. That is what happens after a surrender. 6. How does this proposal fit with quality of life for the Boro? It doesn't, but hey goody, we get a great new ratable! (sarcasm) 7. I believe the Council's plan for the Boro does not fit with allowing a 7-11.Outside of a parking garage that is certainly not a new idea for Freehold, what exactly is the councils plan? Half the time they do not even adhere to what little they have proposed. I would love for someone to articulate the big plan. I have yet to see one that inspires.

Half the time they do not even adhere to what little they have proposed. I would love for someone to articulate the big plan. I have yet to see one that inspires. Great comments, which are in green. (It's not easy being green). We do need jobs from viable businesses that pay a decent wage and not a dead end type of postion. Even more attorney offices would be preferable, and not so unusual since we are the county seat. The council should be enticing businesses such as an art gallary, antique store, rare book store, pet boutique, doctor or dentist office are just a few of the types of businesses that would be preferable to a 7-11 and offer a decent job for some of our residents I have heard so many times the word "ratable" from the town council I think they have reached a point of apathy to allow a "ratable" such as this. Poor laziness on their part for not enticing more desirable businesses. Do we not have a administrator who I would think be the one to make overtures for enticing a variety of businesses? I do blame the council on allowing our town to become a muster zone. They could have done much more to combat this problem. Not only does it affect the quality of life here but also a drain on our school resources. Another convienance store will just expand the "muster zone" even further and right onto Main St. what a wonderful vision that will be. I somehow do not think that is included as part of the FREEHOLD CENTER CORE REDEVELOPMENT PLAN AREA that the council created. Job well done ! (sarcasm) I can't beleive our state legistlatures could not be contacted along with congressmen and senators to help with this problem. We after all voted them in, we should be able to get some assistance from them as well as Homeland Security. At one time, the future for the Boro started to look much brighter when things started to get cleaned up on Main St. when I first moved here in the late '80's from my childhood home on Main St in Marlboro. I was well acquinted with the Boro even as a child. Main Street has started to become a colletion of ethnic businesses catering to the illegal population. Other businesses in town are not what I would call upscale or even practical for the most part. Given that the Boro is the county seat, we should be able to put on a better show. At least the Mural Project is something that involves our younger citizens with public service to their community. Maybe our council needs to talk to the municipalities such as Spring Lake, Ocean Grove or Princeton and get some ideas on how to attract desirable businesses to the Boro. (A Starbucks would even be more desirable instead of a 7-11, at least they look nice and pay well). I would like to see another specialty coffee house come back, there is plenty of room for another one.

First thing, did anyone go to the planning board meeting? What happened? I have not seen anything in the local news.

Here are some scary facts. John Corzine put together the blue ribbon panel on immigration in NJ. It was packed with open borders advocates. Our mayor wanted to be on that panel with so many other democrats. The report that panel issued outlined a wish list for what they open borders crowd wants in a sanctuary town. It describes Freehold to the letter. Our democrat council has allowed it and welcomed it. Keep that in mind the next time you read about high crime, 70 percent of our schools children being economically disadvantaged, lack of real economic development and so on. Not to be partisan, but this is the democrat design.

I'm confused How did this Proposal get passed? I've heard nothing but how so many people in the Boro think this is a bad idea for so many reasons. I actually haven't heard one good reason for putting a 7-11 at that corner. Jobs? Cut me a break! How many employees work in a 7-11? Maybe 5? Even the Freehold patch took a poll with 49% against! freehold.patch.com/articles/poll-should-a-7-eleven-occupy-vacant-property. What I would really like to know is who stepped on all those kids that were helping to plan and to paint the mural that is half done?

Don't worry about the mural, it is a success and will be finished. The FBAC was fully aware that the mural would be temporary. That was part of the deal. The mission has been accomplished. We brought people together and many are really enjoying the experience. I do believe this has produced plans for more murals in the future. As far as the 7-11, the big issue is the severe lack of planning and economic development in this town. That has got to change.
