I have to tell you I think this is a horrible idea! It has more huge negatives then positives. I get the whole idea of how great it is that someone will finally try to move us past the old Exxon, I just see this as a bad idea...Traffic for one is going to be horrible, town in that area is backed up enough already, adding this will def increase that issue. I also do not see how a 7-11 gives a good or positive feel at the entrance of town, I feel it may cheapen the feel of Freehold. I know the economy is down and not many people are looking to invest but just because someone wants to invest 1 Million into this land doesn't mean we should jump! What if someone wanted to invest 1.3 million there and open a go go bar, would we settle for that as well? As far as Georges brilliant argument about creating jobs who is he kidding??? Has he ever been into a 7-11 before? A friend and Boro resident opened one on rt 79 before rt 18, he has 4 employees, will that make that much of a difference? Also, with the apartments on the end of Henry St, wouldn't this turn into a smaller version of 6-12? I'm sorry but i see more negatives then I do positives and think this is a huge mistake!! Make is a park or sitting area with a few benches at least that gives a better look to our town then a small 7-11.

I think of a child at Christmas morning coming down the stairs and seeing a huge wrapped present with his name on it. The box is as tall a the child! With eager anticipation, the child opens his present to find a lonely pair of socks at the bottom of this huge box. Socks are nice but......
That sums up how I feel about the 7-11. For over ten years we have been staring at this urban blight that sits on a prominent gateway to our town. For over ten years we waited, just to get socks.
I know I am not alone. I have been reading many opinions on web sites about this, as well as spoken with many others. Most sentiments are the same, " I am not crazy about this, but......"
I think most people will agree that seeing something there is a good thing. Having a ratable will definitely be a good thing. (Maybe with more money, the Dems can hold a larger senior citizens party) I think most people also get it that something more attractive and interesting would have been better there. I come away with the feeling that Freehold has come up short-again.
Yea, a 7-11 is nice but......

One other topic on this has appeared, the concern of the 7-11 becoming a muster zone. That is a very high possibility due to the fact that most of our down town already is a muster zone. If people think a 7-11 will prevent it, think again. It is a franchise and will depend on the owner. If the owner allows it, there is nothing the town can do. If the 7-11 becomes dependent on the day laborers seeking work, does anyone really think he will chase away his cash flow? No. That won't happen.
And of course, lets not forget the settlement a few years ago. the town agreed to never interfere with the day laborers.

OK, you both dislike the 7-11 idea. What WOULD you like to see there?
I don't have many ideas. There's already a detailing/10-minute lube shop across the street, and a great auto repair shop nearby. So -- maybe some kind of office.

But to play into the idea game, how about a sitting area facing the war remembrance at Elks point, a permanent location for our lost post office, a police center, maybe a statue of Bruce welcoming people...(or George Schnurr)

The fact that George is so exited about this reflects that he has no decent vision for this borough. There are tons of good ideas for this town. These days I am keeping quiet and giving my ideas to the republicans. Besides, I would rather see a WaWa, they have better coffee than 7-11. lol

There are so many things that could meet that criteria. Like I said, we have had over ten years to think about it. Socks are nice, but.....

Also it concerns me that Jaye and John were the only ones that voted this down. I wonder if George and the gang took into consideration what kind of effect this would have on already established long loyal town business like R&R, Center Deli, Smoke Shop and so on. Seems like a slap in the face to these many local loyal business owners. I would think in a 2 block town, 5 store would handle the need, not including the one at the Center Street Plaza, seems like the mayor and council forgot these business owners.
