I am not posting this as an endorsement, just FYI for readers. I am also not sure about accuracy (not sure if borough residents can vote for her). I received this in an email from a friend.
Hello,
My name is Maryanne Tomazic, and I am running as a Write In candidate for the Freehold Township representative on the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education. I am a 2006 graduate of Freehold High School where I studied in the Medical Science Learning Center. I went on to get my BA in Biology from Swarthmore College in 2009, and am currently finishing up my Masters of Public Health at Columbia University. Throughout this time, I have been active in the community as an EMT on the Freehold First Aid Squad and as a volunteer in various community events.
Having been a student in the FRHSD and followed the Board news over the years, I believe it has come time to revitalize the board so that our district can return its focus to a path of increasing academic achievement. Here are some of the goals I will have if elected to the Board of Education:
Regularly meet with community groups to actively involve all voices
o It is understandable that people in the community cannot all come to the Board meetings. However, Board members should make the effort to reach out to their constituents.
Incorporate the State Department “Critical Languages” in our World Curriculum, including Chinese, Arabic, and Russian
o To properly prepare our students with a global education, we must realize that our global awareness can no longer remain Eurocentric.
o To help vitalize these programs, I will work with the district to become approved by the US government to participate in exchange programs. This will bolster our world language classes, especially with class enrollment.
Support the Guidance Department in providing better post-high school planning
o Having just recently graduated from college, I can better link our guidance departments with effective resources for students.
Increase student participation in decisions concerning their education
o It is so important to teach our students that they can use their voice for good and despite their age, they have every right to become involved with the decisions that affect their education.
Maintain high standards for faculty and staff
o It is unacceptable to approve graduate degrees from unaccredited schools. This is a waste of taxpayer money and I will not stand for it.
I sincerely hope that you will write my name in as the Township representative for the FRHSD Board of Education. Some of you have seen me grow up over the last 19 years I’ve been a resident of this town, and hope that you can attest to my maturity and the sense of responsibility I have to make a positive change in our school district. You can vote next Wednesday April 27th from 3-9 pm. Attached is what Freehold residents will see at the polls. Both Freehold Township and Freehold Borough can write Maryanne Tomazic in as the Township representative.
If there are any questions, please feel free to e-mail me.
Thank you,
Maryanne Tomazic
