Though not officially announced, from never wrong sources I have learned that the Dems are running Shnurr and Mike DiBenedetto for council. No surprise.
The mayoral candidate will be Nolan Higgins, without question a very well respected and active member of the community. Here is a very classy quote from Nolan from a past NT article after having received the McGackin award:
After accepting the award from Maury and listening to what people said about the many things he has done for the community over the years, Higgins said, "If you live in Freehold, that's what you do. You have a role in your community, especially if you live in a town like Freehold Borough. Everyone contributes in some way to the community. I love this town."
I know that Nolan is a reader of this site and I do want to wish him the best and good luck in his run.

A CLASSY gentleman running for mayor, IMHO, its a win win, he would serve the Boro extremely well. I have a ton of respect for both Mr. Higgins!! I will say I'm a little sad Jaye Sims isn't in the running. I think Jaye would make an excellent mayor. I can't say a single bad word about that man! With that all being said, I am very happy for Jaye with the twins coming, exciting time for him! He will be an excellent father! God Bless him and his wife! Edited, sorry for the confusion!

I didn't see an announcement from Councilman Newman about his bid to run for Mayor. Where did you read that?
I would like to say best of luck to the fine people who are devoted to making a difference through public service, notably on a local level!

Mike, first of all, it's GREAT to hear from you! Second, no apologies necessary, really. I was just curious. It doesn't matter too much anyway, because the official deadline is sometime later this month, as I recall, and we'll all find out then who officially intends to serve!

Interesting. Nolan Higgins is an excellent choice, and a fine gentleman.
Now -- for the first time in his life, he will have to vote democrat too. :-)

I do not believe John is running this year, but I do have my ear to the ground and expect there will be interesting announcements from the GOP in the near future.
But, all that will be another thread, for now lets just thank Nolan Higgins and Mike D. for their interest in continuing to serve our town and wish them the best. Lets all also ask George to enjoy his last year on council before he joins club Le Vine.

I will say this, the Freehold GOP better pull off a amazing candidate because with all the respect out there for Mr. Higgins, it will be VERY tough to beat him! Should be a clean election year, hopefully!!! I do see one candidate that could make that "clean" turn ugly, hopefully he will keep his EGO in check!
Its nice to see fresh new positive faces up there, with no disrespect to the current mayor!
