freehold.injersey.com/2011/03/09/school-board-candidates-announced/#comment-8047FREEHOLD : Three, three-year terms are available. Incumbents Jim Keelan and Dan Xavier will run for re election, while Bruce Patrick will run for the seat vacated by Adam Reich, who will not run again.Click on the link for the whole story. First, best of luck to Adam Reich. I have only dealt with him in passing but he always came across as a gentleman. Dan and Jim are also both good guys and the BOE is in good hands with both of them. All of the above three have a very tough job and from what I have seen, they do it well. Bruce Patrick is also to be commended for stepping up to this difficult task.

I hope these 3 have a more open dialog policy with residents, I have tired several times to get answers about the schools testing from one of them and received nothing. Hopefully moving forward, there will be more OPEN communication!

“That said, our district’s overall reputation and Adequate Yearly Progress performance will continue to suffer as long as there remains a sizable segment of the population that continues to ignore the importance of their supporting role in a child’s educational development. Our schools can have the best teachers, the newest books, the most dynamic curriculum, the cleanest halls and the prettiest lawns, but we cannot control a child’s behavior once they leave the school environment.
“It is up to parents to ensure a child completes his or her homework every night. It is up to parents to communicate regularly with a child’s teachers to ensure the child is receiving everything he or she may need to remain educationally competitive. It is up for some parents to start living up to their parental responsibilities.”
I agree 100% with this quote as it relates to the responsibility of parents for their child's education. I had to read it twice. Very impressive. I hope Dan is not booted out of the Democrat part for such radical notions of personal responsibility and the role of parents in education. :-)

Nothing like good old conservative family values. ;D Dan is also very right. We could have the best of everything for the kids in the schools, but it all does go right back to the family environment.

There is an aspect to this whole story that has not been discussed yet, so let me be the one to mention it.
I am sad to see that Adam Reich is not going to run for re-election. I am sure there are some very valid reasons behind his decision, but the Board of Ed and the district will miss him.
Adam was a passionate member of the Board of Ed, always looking out for the best interest of the students. Having attended the Freehold schools growing up, Adam was (in some ways) more attached and more dedicated than other members of the board because of a personal bond he shared with some of the teachers, administrators, and even the buildings themselves.
As an example of his dedication, Adam was very involved with Education Foundation, another completely volunteer group that constantly worked to find ways to raise additional money for the Boro schools. I'll always remember that even at some of the meetings with the lightest of agendas, where there were no people from the public in attendance, Adam would always make a a point of "publicly" announcing the latest news and goings-on of the Education Foundation.
Adam was a great Board of Ed member, dedicated, passionate, involved. While I wish Bruce Patrick the best of luck, he should know that he has some big shoes to fill.
And let me wish the best of luck to Adam in his future endeavors. I am sure he will remain involved in Freehold Boro in some form or another.

Andrew, I am just passing through but want to say, good post. I have only met Adam in passing, but I do know that he and his family are quite active in the borough and do a lot of good for this town. Thanks for giving us that reminder to thank Adam Reich for his dedication and service. I bet you are right, he will find ways to remain involved in this town some way.
