The link found below is from the Examiner from a resident in Millstone. I thought it was an interesting read and got me thinking about the borough. We know that the borough schools have some unique challenges, but we also face many of the same ones that every district faces. I thought this letter was interesting because some of it was so familiar to us and yet it comes from a very wealthy and affluent community. I can understand their discontent. Although Millstone’s per-student spending is a relatively low $13,000 (compared to the state’s $15,000), it is appallingly high when compared to other states and countries. What I am mystified by is the lack of citizen involvement in the process by which these budgets are derived. Attendance at board meetings is absolutely abysmal. At the Dec. 16 board meeting, where the board invited community input on the possibility of sharing a superintendent with Upper Freehold — a subject that has huge budgetary implications — there were only three residents in attendance........
