Interesting concept. it's like school choice -- but only within the public school system. This should eliminate or reduce the school union opposition to choice. The real concern for this idea is one that is often cited about charter schools. That is, strong students and activist parents will take advantage of this, while parents who are not as involved, can't provide transportation, or don't understand the advantages, will be left in one system. It will be self-segregation.

It will be self-segregation. Self segregation is bad, but it is happening anyway. I just look at this as an immediate relief for the overcrowding.
