How many years has this been discussed and we are still at the study stages?
No matter what, MOM has to come to western Monmouth. If it goes east that is a loss and a very big mistake. I know many people have high hopes that if MOM is ever built in this area, Freehold Borough will benefit. We really have a lot of work to do ahead of time if we are to reap the rewards.
I will say for now, the future of Monmouth county is in the south/west pan handle- Millstone, and Upper Freehold specifically. If MOM is built in the western areas, those towns will be gold mines for whoever lives there. Millstone is more affluent and UF has more for the middle class, but both towns have great schools and have been very good at preserving open space. Those things will keep property values high. With MOM, they will only go higher.

After looking at maps detailing both the east & west routes (I love the internet - you can find anything), I don't really have a preference which direction opens - as long as one does since the benefits to the Boro would be tremendous.

Even then -- the planning necessary for such a line and the type of economic investment and urban planning done will dictate the level of success.
