FREEHOLD — A new bank may soon be a part of Main Street’s landscape if all goes according to plan.
Borough Council members recently authorized Borough Attorney Kerry Higgins to prepare a positive resolution to accept the plans for a branch of Investors Savings Bank, 21 W. Main St., Freehold Borough....
Van Hine-Carreiro also discussed several recommendations offered by the Historic Preservation Commission, including the exterior colors of the building, which commission members wanted to be coordinated with the upstairs color, which is a dark bronze, leaning toward black.
She said the commission also recommended that there be an awning installed at the front and rear along the entire length of the window. The commission also requested that the building number be placed on the front awning and on the rear awning.
Another recommendation was to place shutters on the two rear windows, and to add protection for the ground surface in the form of planters, or a similar attractive deterrent in keeping with the historic nature of the building.
The bank’s sign on the front of the building will be brushed aluminum, to be installed on the brick between the first and second floors....
An additional recommendation from the Historic Preservation Commission states that the parts of the interior structure that are of a historic nature, such as the tin ceilings, “are to be preserved in one form or another.”
In the end, the council passed a positive resolution regarding the Main Street branch of the Investors Savings Bank. The resolution notes the governing body’s concern about the ATM machine at the rear of the building.
