FREEHOLD — The intersection of Main and South streets was closed earlier today after an electrical fire broke out in the Freehold Liquors building.
The fire, reported around 1:45 p.m., was confined to the basement of the West Main Street store. Firefighters had it under control within a half-hour, said Second Assistant Fire Chief Dan Megill.
The damage was not extensive, Megill said.
Though the fire was not large, fire companies from several towns responded because firefighters needed to be rotated often to prevent heat stroke, Megill said.
Fire companies from Freehold Township, Manalapan, Marlboro and Colts Neck offered their services. Members of the Freehold First Aid and the Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office were also on hand, Megill said.
