freehold.injersey.com/2010/06/17/two-nyc-men-arrested-for-borough-double-murder/Two NYC Men Arrested for Borough Double MurderTwo New York City men are being held on $3 million bail for the armed burglary and murder of two Borough residents yesterday afternoon.
Dong Bin Lin, 24, and Zeng Liang Chen, 20, both of New York City, were arrested for the murder of Mr. Yao Chen, 39, and Mrs. Yun Juan Chen, 28. Mr. and Mrs. Chen were brother and sister.
Lin was a former employee at the Chen's family-owned local Chinese restaurant-- which is believed to be the Golden Taste Restauant on Jackson Street, though that report is not yet confirmed by the Prosecutor's Office. It is believed that he and Chen broke into the house to steal cash, and then brutally attacked Mr. and Mrs. Chen.
Following the 911 call of a passing motorist, police found Mr. Chen conscious but bleeding profusely, with his hands bound, on South Street. He was transported to Jersey Shore medical center, where he died. Police found Mrs. Chen dead in a bedroom inside the family's South Street residence. She had also sustained injuries during the attacks.
While officers were tending to Mr. Chen in the street, another motorist reported to police that he or she had seen two young Asian males on Main Street in the Borough who appeared to have recently been in an altercation. The police broadcast that description, and area police went in search of the males.
Lieutenant John Todd of the Freehold Township police department located the two men "in the Route 9 area" and took them into custody. The men were Lin and Chen.
The investigation into the double murder then revealed that Lin had previously worked for the Chen's restaurant. Other members of the Chen family, who lived at the residence with Mr. and Mrs. Chen, were working at the restaurant at the time.
At the Prosecutor's Office press conference Wednesday, Prosecutor Luis Valentin commended the cooperation of local residents with the investigation. Valentin said that area witnesses were forthcoming with vital information that directly aided the apprehension of the suspects and the investigation.
Valentin also praised Borough and Township police officers, including Borough Detective Chris Otlowski, who quickly broadcast a description of the suspects over the radio, leading to their arrest, and Lts. Todd of Freehold Township and Mark Wodell of the Borough, and Capt. Glenn Roberts.
In addition to Borough and Township police officers, Tinton Falls police, Sheriff's Officers, and a translator from the Piscataway police department assisted in the investigation.
Lin and Chen are charged with two counts of first degree murder and first degree felony murder, third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (knives), second degree armed burglary, and first degree armed robbery. Both men face the possibility of life in prison without parole.
Initial appearances for Chen and Lin are scheduled before Judge Scully at the County Courthouse tomorrow at 11 AM.
Autopsies of both victims will be performed today.
Anyone with information about the homicides is asked to call the Prosecutor's Office at 800-533-7443.
