The contract should be voided completely, not just ratified. Aside from her 2011 increase she should give back her monthly car allowance of a $100 and any other perks that will cost the taxpayer's of the Borough an unfair burden !! Just my opinion www.app.com/article/20100520/NEWS/100520091/Freehold-school-board-to-vote-on-administrators-wage-freeze-tonightFREEHOLD — The borough school district's board of education will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. tonight. The board is expected to ratify an agreement with the Freehold Borough Administrators Association allowing for a wage freeze during the 2011-2012 school year. The meeting will be held at the Park Avenue complex, 280 Park Ave.

I got stuck working a double shift yesterday. Anybody go to this meeting and what happened?
Usually I am not quick to go after the people on the top. Usually I see people doing that for all the wrong reasons. But, there is no question that ALL employees should take a pay freeze. That has to start at the top if for no other reason than to set the right example. The admins should also set an example and start paying that 1.5 percent of their salary into health care benefits.
The other night at the council meeting, this issue certainly did not go unnoticed. At least a couple of the council mentioned that it is not right for admins to get raises.
I believe that people in education should not get any raises until the Abbot funding is corrected and unfunded mandates are identified and Trenton gets rid of them. If the unions and the admins are not taking on these issues, they are a part of the problem.

The freeze will be in effect for the 2011-12 school year. In return for taking the freeze, members will not have to make the 1.5 percent salary contribution toward their health insurance costs through 2011-12. The union includes principals, directors and supervisors in the district. Union members are slated to receive 3.25 percent raises for the 2010-11 school year, district business administrator Patrick DeGeorge said earlier this week. The district's central office, technology and transportation staff do not belong to a union. They, along with DeGeorge, are in contract negotiations for the upcoming school year, DeGeorge has said. Schools Superintendent Elizabeth O'Connell's contract calls for an approximately 3.5 percent raise in 2010-11. O'Connell said Tuesday she could not discuss accepting a pay freeze because of pending state pension-reform bills

O'Connell said Tuesday she could not discuss accepting a pay freeze because of pending state pension-reform bills The BOE really lost and opportunity at showing some real leadership here. So did the administrators. Expecting all public employees to pay something into their health care is reasonable and is happening. Instead of waiting for the state, the BOE should have stepped up and made sure that the admins are paying this very modest fee as a demonstration of leadership and doing what is right. If they pass the buck and play the blame Christy game down the road, that is cheap and not very honest. The state is enacting these health care measures because local boards rarely step up and show the guts that are needed. I think of what site participant Andrew Defonzo has said, there is a difference between elected leaders and elected officials. The above decisions show us that we have officials.
