FREEHOLD — The Freehold Borough Police Department will host its third annual Youth Police Academy from July 19-30.
The 10-day summer program for youths between the ages of 12 and 16 will introduce participants to all aspects of law enforcement using hands-on activities.
Guest speakers will include members of the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Marshals Service, New Jersey State Police, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Participants will also experience demonstrations and practice what they have learned through different hands-on exercises. The participants will experience military etiquette, drill and ceremony, handcuffing techniques, police K9 interaction, basic criminal investigation and police baton training as well as first aid and fire safety basics.
According to a press release, the Freehold Borough Youth Police Academy is being run with the full backing and cooperation of the Freehold Borough Mayor and Borough Council and Police Chief Mitchell Roth.
The coordinator of the Youth Police Academy is Patrolman Keith Bailey, a 20- year veteran of the department. Sgt. Andrew DeMuth, patrolmen Chris Colaner, Ronnie Steppat Jr. and Sean Healey will assist. There is no cost to attend the academy.
Applications can be downloaded at www.fbpd.net or at police headquarters, 36 Jackson St., Freehold. Application deadline is June 15 and class size is limited. The program is open to all youths, however, Freehold Borough residents will be given priority. Call 732-462-1233 for more information.
