www.app.com/article/20100428/NEWS/100429001/1285/LOCAL09/Freehold-detective-tackles-saves-man-from-suicide-attempt The man was on a Route 9 overpass, threatening suicide. When police arrived, he began cutting his wrist with a piece of broken glass. With blood dripping from his arm, he threatened to jump out into the fast-moving highway traffic. Detective Chris Otlowski tried to talk the man out of it, but the man began to move toward the highway, his wrists still dripping with blood. At this point, Otlowski charged and tackled the man to the ground. "This could have been a horrible tragedy," said police Sgt. Andrew A. DeMuth, who provided the account of the incident. "Detective Otlowski did a fantastic job." At about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, police received a report of a patient who had walked out of a counseling session after saying he was going to kill himself, DeMuth said in a prepared release. The patient was apparently suffering from several disorders and had attempted suicide before, DeMuth said. After police started searching for him, Officer Michael Denham located the man on the Route 9 overpass at Throckmorton Street, DeMuth said. Otlowski arrived shortly thereafter. Initially, the officers feared the man would jump from the overpass, DeMuth said, but when he saw the police he started cutting his wrists and eventually moving toward the traffic. After Otlowski tackled the man he was assisted by Patrolman Sean Healy. The man was taken to CentraState Medical Center for treatment, police said. No charges were filed again the man, whom police did not identify.

Makes you wonder, with no disrespect to the county dispatch, but if the call went there first, would that have given the police enough time to save him. Im going to say no, Freehold boro dispatchers saved his life, no headlines about that. Also, hats off to our Police again, as always wonderful job guys!
