St. Peter’s to debut concert series May 1 BY CLARE MARIE CELANO Staff Writer FREEHOLD — St. Peter’s Episcopal Church is well known for its outreach ministries to needy individuals in the community. Now the historic Freehold church can add another community outreach effort — a series of musical concerts. The landmark church at the corner of West Main and Throckmorton streets will be offering a series of concerts featuring various types of music, including opera, musical theater, folk music and more. The concert series will launch at 7:30 p.m. May 1 with “An Evening of Song,” according to Mark Hyczko, who is the church’s musical director and organist. The concert will feature the music of George Gershwin, Rogers and Hammerstein, Verdi, Puccini and other composers. Tickets for the May 1 concert and reception are $45; tickets for the concert only are $20. For more information, call 732-431- 8383. Performing under the direction of Hyczko will be tenor Philip Alongi, oboist and singer Adrienne Blossey, singer Jeremy Blossey, soprano Elizabeth Ann Murphy, baritone Mark Riley, soprano Nadine Robinson, and singer Charles Schneider. “All of the singers are professionally classically trained and I have worked with all of them in the past,” Hyczko said, adding that all of the artists have performed at St. Peter’s Church in one capacity or another over the years. “Concert attendees will quickly recognize songs such as ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ or music from ‘Carmen.’ ” He said the guests will be introduced to music they may not have heard before. Speaking of how the public concert series came about, Hyczko said, “St Peter’s has always had an active musical ministry program, but it has never had an appropriate piano to accompany certain types of music. The church ran a fundraising campaign to buy a piano and managed to raise enough for a Yamaha Grand Piano. “This exceeded my expectations. This instrument and our great acoustics will allow us a great opportunity to present professional music in an historic space in Downtown Freehold and to bring another venue for performers and musical expression.” “We look forward to maintaining a diverse program, but will still include a healthy dose of classical music,” Hyczko said. “This is a very exciting opportunity to bring to our community a new cultural musical experience and events to complement the ongoing events in Downtown Freehold. It is a natural extension of our outreach ministry to the community.” newstranscript.gmnews.com/news/2010-04-28/Front_Page/St_Peters_to_debut_concert_series_May_1.html

Jeremy Blossey will be giving a recital with soprano Eileen Cooper tomorrow (June 5) at St. Peter's Church at 8:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased at the door ($15/$10 students & seniors). Come and enjoy "A Springtime Serenade"!
I am very late in getting this post up and by the time most readers see it, the recital will be over. I am posting it anyway to show off this great new series in town and help keep it in people's minds. Jeremy Blossey performed in the first show ans was very good.
