Newsflash: The NJDOT has granted preliminary approval to make major repairs to the Broad Street rail crossing, much similar to the improvements performed on the one on South Street approximately five years ago. (NJ transit made some temporary repairs at the Broad St. crossing over the past few years.) Upon final approval, work will hopefully take place some time this year. It is estimated that the improvements will take approximately two days. This has obviously been in the works before my coming to office. I am merely sharing this bit of news.

John,
Does that include those mechanical rails to tell people to stop? Seems like that would be a good idea, I know we had them in the past, not sure what happened to them. I have been stuck there when the lights are flashing and to me, it seems dangerous when trying to cross because you have to inch all the way out.

Thanks for letting us know, it is good news. That rail crossing is hell on both bike and car.

I do not have much more information other than it will probably look much like the South Street crossing. Also, I do not believe that the signal crossing with some sort of a barrier was contemplated. But I have asked the borough administrator to inquire about it when the meeting with the DOT is eventually held.

Great news John, Thank you! Just seems like its an accident waiting to happen and a few years back we already had one, no need for another. Again, Thanks for the answer
