In the above thread, we saw a heated discussion about the gang presence in Freehold Borough. There are facts that backed up the concerns in that thread.
1. The thread started with an article pertaining to the murder of a human being, in our town, that was gang related.
2. Also mentioned was an old story from this site about a party teh police broke up where it was reported that people wearing gang colors were giving the police the hardest time.
3. A state web site was found that claims that four gangs are found in this town- the Bloods, Latin Kings, La Mugre, and other. It is now confirmed that we have MS 13. ( More on that later)
Those three facts are enough that any person can and should have valid concerns. So why bring it back up? Because those of you reading, who wear rose colored glasses, are about to have those glasses shattered.
What brings this back up? The APP is doing a week long series on gangs in New Jersey. This series will be found in print first and on line at a later date. (The APP has been doing this tactic as a part of there recent changes. )

In today's edition, Freehold Borough is listed as one of about 22 out of 54 Monmouth County municipalities that have a reported gang presence. I flat out reject that just because other towns alos have issues that the people of FB should not be concerned.
I mentioned earlier that MS-13 is a confirmed presence in this town. That confirmation comes from the APP. MS-13 is well recognized as one of the most violent and brutal gangs in the nation.
Contained in the APP article today is also a quote from one of Freehold's police officers:
Lt. Mark Wodell of the Freehold policed department acknowledges increased gang activity in the county seat of Monmouth during the last five years. It's mostly "gang on gang violence," he said. " People aren't calling saying, " There's a bunch of Bloods next door." Most residents won't know if there's a gang member next door."
This first post will be just a starting point and will be used again in the future in order to do what this site has always done- offer open and honest discussions about everything and anything about our town.
We clearly are starting off with facts, but there are more questions to answer and, hopefully, we will get those answers. One of those question will be about the schools. We have no facts at our disposal at this time as to what, if any, problems exist in borough schools. The APP will have a report on other schools on Thursday and the article today does clearly indicate that schools are an area of interest to watch.
Other questions-
We now have established facts of five gangs in town. How big are the gangs?
What exactly does the PD do to combat the issues?
What can residents look for to report to the police?
What is the exact crime break down in this town, per incident, and how much is related to gang activity?
