Some have commented about my photos that have been posted here as well on various FB and InJersey pages..., Thank You!!!
Anyone that really knows me, knows how much I like to share. I'd like to share a little secret of mine that will (hopefully) allow many other to enhance what may seem like nice snapshots into eye catching “Photographic Images”.
First, I highly recommend getting a “Name Brand” camera like Kodak, Cannon, Nikon, Pentax Olympus, or my preference ..., Panasonic (I'm old school, I like fine German optics). You do NOT need to spend a lot of money on the camera, as long as there are quality optics and a good (CCD or CMOS) image sensor..,(Thats the electronic part that does what film used to do but enough geek talk). And you can use a “point a shot” even, nothing fancy..., remember..., there are lots of folks with expensive fancy cameras and all they capture are nice snapshots, not “Photographic Images”!
The secret is...., let the camera take the picture, then “Create the Image” on your computer (no more darkrooms.. ) with SIMPLE yet powerful photographic editing software.
Professionals and “advanced armatures” use Adobe Photoshop. This is a ubiquitous standard software tool, that is expensive and if you want to become proficient, you should take a Photoshop class.
I recommend using Google's Picasa..., it is free, powerful and SIMPLE tool, and for the most part, all you need to do is CROP OUT WHAT YOU DONT WANT (I like cropping into a letterbox format)..., next adjust the color, let the software sharpen the image up a bit, adjust the color saturation (some times less is more) and then the contrast, and insto-chango... Your snapshot is now a “Photographic Image”.
Picasa will search your entire hard drive to locate all your photographs, index them into a simple to use photo album, allows you to create photo mosaics, create a photo video with an audio back ground, create photo CD's, or upload to free (password protected) photo web space and much much more.
And whats is really great about Picasa is, it leaves your original – raw photo file untouched, so there are no permanent changes (I can explain the value to anyone interested .., off line). This allows you to really mess around with your pictures, go crazy, mess around with the color, change is to B&W, sepia color, all lots of graininess... and experiment with other effects yet you still have your “Base line” original target photo untouched!
So to sum is all up..., anyone and everyone can create impressive “Photographic Image” with the right tools, and without spending ton's of cash!!! Download Picasa and and have fun playing.
