A resolution passed by the council states that the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, Office of Clean Energy, administers the Local Government Energy Audit Program, which is an incentive program to assist local government agencies to conduct energy audits and to encourage implementation of energy conservation measures. Freehold Borough has been accepted into the program and will be able to have borough owned facilities audited. The council awarded Steven Winter Associates Inc., East Brunswick, a contract to prepare an energy audit in compliance with the Local Government Energy Audit Program. The cost of the audit will be $16,437. According to the resolution, the state program will cover 75 percent of the total expense of the audit ($12,327) and Freehold Borough will be required to pay the balance of $4,109. Buildings scheduled to be examined as part of the energy audit are the Carnegie Library on East Main Street; the Freehold Fire Department on West Main Street; the Freehold Borough Police Department on Jackson Street; the public works service center on Center Street; the Freehold Borough water treatment plant on Waterworks Road; and Borough Hall on West Main Street.
