The Freehold Fire Department and the Sons of the American Legion will be holding a spaghetti dinner fund raiser for Billy Anderson on Saturday, January 16th at the American Legion. The full details are below. Please pass this along to anyone you know who knows Billy or might be interested in attending. If anyone would like to buy tickets before hand you can either call my cell (732) 995-4377 or the main firehouse number.
It's being held from 4-9pm on Saturday, January 16th, 2010 at the American Legion (62 W. Main Street, Freehold). Cost: Adults - $8, Children - $5.00. Call 732-462-0164 for pre-sale tickets or take outs. Donations can be sent and made out to the Monmouth Hose Co. (49 W. Main St, Freehold).
~I received the above in an email that requested this be passed around. Billy Anderson is an active person in our town. To name a couple of things he serves on the fire department, SPOOKTACULAR and the Neighborhood Pride Committee. For a very modest fee, come out to this fundraiser for a meal and to help one of our own who gives a lot to the town. ~

I added this to the calendar in order to provide a constant reminder to site readers. I understand that Billy was diagnosed with cancer.
Please take the time and help out a person who has given a lot to this town.

newstranscript.gmnews.com/news/2010-01-06/Front_Page/Friends_to_rally_for_fireman.htmlFriends to rally for fireman BY CLARE MARIE CELANO Staff Writer FREEHOLD — Members of the Freehold Fire Department and the Sons of the American Legion will be cooking and serving up spaghetti to help one of their own on Jan. 16. “Members of the Freehold Fire Department and the Sons of the American Legion will be hosting a spaghetti dinner and a raffle for a flat screen TV on behalf of our brother fireman and friend, Billy Anderson,” firefighter Chris Guy said. The event will be held at the American Legion hall, 62 W. Main St., from 4-9 p.m. Jan. 16. According to Guy, who is a member of the dinner committee, Anderson, 47, serves the Freehold Fire Department as a second lieutenant. He works as a carpenter for Union Local 2250 and is a lifelong resident of Freehold Borough. Anderson was recently diagnosed with cancer and is under treatment, according to Guy. “Members of the fire department and members of the Sons of the American Legion wanted to step up and do something to help Billy after all the time he has dedicated to volunteering for events and projects to help other people,” Guy said. He said Anderson is an active borough volunteer who has previously worked on behalf of the Spooktacular Committee, the Neighborhood Pride Committee and the Olde Freehold Day Committee. Guy said Joseph DiBenedetto suggested holding a dinner for Anderson. The dinner will include salad, spaghetti, meatballs and refreshments. Take-out will be available. Guy said a group of 10 firefighters are organizing the dinner. Many of the borough’s volunteer firefighters are expected to attend the event to help prepare and serve the meal to guests. Members of the Sons of the American Legion will also be on hand to cook and serve the dinner. Tickets for the Jan. 16 dinner can be purchased in advance. The cost of a ticket is $8 for adults and $5 for children. Add 50 cents for a take-out order. For information and tickets, call 732-462-0164. Guy said anyone who might like to make a monetary donation for Anderson can send their donation to the Monmouth Hose Company, West Main Street, Freehold

Brian, I was there too, so sorry I missed you! Yes, it was absolutely wonderful. I so agree with what you wrote. I daresay no other community can hold a candle to Freehold Borough.

Readers of this site were pointed to the facebook group for the fundraiser. All who signed up as guests received the following message, which really illustrates just how successful the fund raiser was....
On behalf of the Freehold Fire Department and the Sons of the American Legion I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who contributed on behalf of Billy. Whether it was buying a few raffle tickets, making a monetary donation, helping in the kitchen, or serving in some capacity last night, your assistance was beyond appreciated.
No words can truly express the enormous success it was, with the amount raised for Billy surpassing a staggering $20,000. That figure we believe will continue to climb as donations continue to trickel in over the course of the next few days.
Few towns have the makeup that a small town like Freehold does. Time and time again the people of this area show a unique and unparalled ability to unite in times such as this. The outpouring of support and assistance from so many individuals during the course of the last few weeks was simply overwhelming and provides furtherproof of just how wonderful of a town Freehold Boro truly is.
Again, thank you.

wow -- that is impressive. Billy is a terrific guy. Great family -- deep Freehold roots. Billy and his family have been intertwined in the positive things of Freehold for years.
I had not followed this thread too closely, and did not even realize this spaghetti dinner was for him. I am hoping he is doing well -- and it seems clear he has the support of the entire town.
