he hates america and I hate him Tony, This post is certainly different. Especially considering that this board for Bruce was meant as more of an honor for him. I would be interested in hearing why you think this of Springsteen. It would be good to see an opinion that is a bit different than ususal. I bet we would agree on a few things.

Admin and Tony,
I agree with you Tony, who does Bruce think he is. He is a singer not anything more. I liked his music but i cant stand the man. I went to a concert a few years back and he started making fun of George Bush, speaking against our country....I thought to myself, who are you bruce, you are suppose to be the all american singer and now your goin against america? I certainly dont agree with everything in this country but that doesnt mean you should brain wash a crowd of 30k plus with you opinions! Its sad that bruces talents have gone so far down that he needs shock value to sell records. Dont even get me started on his anti-NYC police song. Freeholds hero is more like a falling or failing star to me!

Its sad that bruces talents have gone so far down that he needs shock value to sell records. Dont even get me started on his anti-NYC police song. Freeholds hero is more like a falling or failing star to me! We are in agreement in our distaste for Bruce's politics. One thing he did recently that I found distasteful was when Bruce declined the invitation to play at our new Governors inauguration. reports state that Christie is a very big fan of the Boss on top of that. If I recall, Bruce cited that he did not want to get political, but certainly had no problem endorsing Corzine and President Obama. While I have no problem with him endorsing Obama or Corzine, as it is his right, that makes him a hypocrite. I am a believer that Bruce has turned into nothing but a limousine liberal, completely out of touch with the average person. That would be no surprise, he has been one of the biggest rock stars for decades now. He lives in a world where everybody worships the ground he walks on and kisses his rear end. It is hard to stay grounded in that setting. I believe Bruce should have taken up that invitation, even if he is not a Christie supporter. Bruce comes from our town, a blue collar, working class town. I like to believe that if he was really in touch with his roots, he would jump at the chance to be a part of our celebration of democracy-that is what the inauguration is all about. The voters spoke on election day and Christie was the man of the hour. In a sense, Bruce has slapped all of the voters in the face, including those of us in his home town who did vote overall for Christie over Corzine. The above aside, I have to now rant in favor of Bruce and other entertainers/artists, mostly because I am a musician myself. I often hear the arguments that musicians and artists should stick with what they do and not get political. I could not disagree with that more. The arts are expression, politics and social issues are very much a part of that expression at times. Politics have been a part of artistic expression for centuries. I often look at the 1960's and 1970's as an example of that. My favorite styles of rock and roll come from that era, but I am in complete disagreement with the politics expressed. My two biggest criticism of political artistic expression come from looking within. I do believe that as a society we put too much credibility in what the famous Hollywood types think. The entertainers do think a little too much of them selves and we as a society engage in way too much idol worship. I also have to point out that often when there is a backlash against an artist, they are too quick to cry foul. The Dixie Chicks come to mind when they were in hot water for some awful, anti American comments they made. I defend their right to say what they wish, but they have to take the heat when there is a public backlash. The Dixie Chicks very wrongly painted themselves a victims and could not take it. The government should never silence artists, but in the case of the Dixie Chicks, radio stations and listeners did shun them. That is the other end of the artistic expression that must be respected. Will Bruce suffer a backlash? Maybe a small one, but he will still remain one of the kings of rock. And I am sure that overall, Freehold will still be proud of him.

I have always loved Springsteen's music, since the early 1970s. I really don't care what his political position is.

I have always loved Springsteen's music, since the early 1970s. I really don't care what his political position is. I still love his music. His growing political voice makes it harder to appreciate the music. I am trying to be more liberal in that regard -- showing more "tolerance." His opinions appear to be the by product of his poor upbringing, lack of education, distance from real life problems, and his crowd of Hollyweird types. I'd vote for him for the Rock Hall of Fame -- but not for Freehold Borough Council.

Rich, if you don't like Springsteen's "growing political voice" just tune it out -- separate it from the songs of his you really enjoy listening to.
For example, I tune out the Republican right-wingers such as Jon Voight, and do not let his political passions turn me off of his acting. I will continue to respect his acting work and hope to see more of him in a variety of roles.
