FREEHOLD — The borough will experience a taste of Russia on Dec. 3 when the Moscow Boys Choir performs at the Freehold Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Main St.
The world famous choir will bring its
Christmas Around the World" concert tour to the church in Freehold Borough in its only New Jersey appearance. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
According to Robert DiSogra, chairman of the church's Special Music Committee, this is the fifth annual Christmas concert that the 170-year-old church has hosted.
The church has previously welcomed two-time Grammy winners Chanticleer, as well as the Vienna Boys Choir, the New York Choral Society and the Westminster Handbell Choir.
The Dec. 3 concert is part of a fundraising series to help defray expenses for church renovations.
"We are extremely pleased to bring another internationally known singing group to Freehold this Christmas," DiSogra said. "The response from the community to our previous Christmas shows has been fantastic. There are also many people who now look forward to these concerts at the beginning of the Christmas season."
According to DiSogra, the Moscow Boys Choir was founded in 1957 and is now under the direction of choir master and conductor Leonid Baklushin. The choir enjoys an international reputation for excellence.
"The choir has toured many other countries, including South Korea, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium and Holland," DiSogra said. "This will be the choir's only New Jersey appearance."
According to materials provided by DiSogra, the "powerful sound of the all-male, 30- voice choir consists of seasonal music from around the world as audiences are musically transported to faraway places including Russia, Europe, the Americas and more. The choir will showcase many beloved Christmas classics, as well as new and vibrant pieces, many sung in their language of origin."
The materials notes that "holiday favorites from previous tours will be included, such as 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas,' excerpts from Handel's 'Messiah,' 'Silver Bells,' 'Angels We Have Heard on High' and 'Silent Night.' "
Tickets for the Dec. 3 performance in Freehold Borough are $35 and all seats are reserved. Tickets may be ordered by calling 732-845-0338.
