Has anyone taken a really good look at our down town on any given evening? It is rocking! Why is that? Because the restaurant business is still doing very well. With that we have seen a really nice growth of entertainment in the boro. Zebu is bringing in bands, Bayou Cafe is bringing in great entertainers, the gazebo is being used just about every weekend and so on. That is on top of the great shows and events the FCP has had in place for quite some time. And their events are getting better by the year.
People often opine that our town need an anchor. We have it in all of the above. It is here and we need to continue enhancing this nightlife that has grown very nicely.
I put this separate board together as a way of highlighting the arts and entertainment we have here. What is posted is just a fraction.
I believe more and more people are starting to recognize the value in working with the restaurant industry in the borough. I had another couple conversations with boro-ites on this very topic this past week and I know people see the future and potential in turning Freehold into the entertainment capital of western Monmouth County. One need only look around and with little imagination there are plenty of other businesses that could really feed off of and enhance what we have.
When it comes to arts and music, I believe that we need a group here in the borough who will really highlight and advertise the concept. I know others think so too, I heard the idea mentioned in a Recreation Commission meeting. When we have places like Rader Rivera art studios here, along with everything else,
having an Arts and Music Council in the borough would be a real asset to them; keeping them here and ensuring their success, as well as ours as a downtown.
At a time when the Obanomy is in the toilet, we see other towns with retail and niche shops really struggling more than they had before. The above formula for the borough is recession proof (so far), why not run with it? I also know from experience that when the economy is down, cheap and decent recreation becomes a much more vital necessity and grows in demand.
The big question is, who will grab the bull by the horns and git 'er done?
