I am starting this thread as an in depth look and comparison at other towns that are similar to Freehold Borough. This will be a thread that pops back up periodically.
For now, all comparisons will be made between the western Monmouth County "donut hole" towns. That includes Farmingdale, Allentown, Englishtown, Roosevelt, and Freehold Borough.
The reason for the limitation is because it is foolish to compare us to large townships like Freehold, Ocean, Wall, etc.

Yes, it's difficult to compare. In addition to population, I would think that square miles of the town also comes into play.
I would like to see the comparison with Woodbury and Somerville: two county seats of similar population and similar size.
I think Somerville is a doughnut town, surrounded by Bridgewater.

We have more people than all those towns combined.

First, I thought FB would be the lowest in taxes. We are smack dab in the middle, though, not by much compared to the two cheaper towns. That said, Roosevelt and Farmingdale both lack police forces. The other towns, due to smaller populations have smaller police forces than us. I am also aware that neither Allantown or Roosevelt has municipal services that come close to ours. Both of those towns require the residents to pay for their own trash pick up. I do not know about Farmingdale or Englishtown, but I bet they do not. Also, I understand that Englishtown is in dire straights, very near broke and not fiscally sound at all.

For the year 2007 -Crimes per 1000 residents Allentown Boro .5 Englishtown Boro 14.1 Farmingdale Boro 13.4 Freehold Boro 26.4 Roosevelt Boro 4.4 you also have to compare the types of crimes - which I think makes a difference to all people. If Freehold Boro had a high crime rate and it was all shoplifting candybars, as opposed to Roosevelt all of Roosevelts low crime rate being either rape or murder... well, then people would obviously feel safer in Freehold than in Roosevelt. If it was all rape and murder in FB with a high crime rate, and only stolen candybars in Roosevelt with a low crime rate... We'd all probably move and not even risk driving through the boro. So, IMO, the crime rates need to be broken down a bit more, and then analyzed.

Here is a cut and paste from data universe as to what stats they have.... County/ Town /Year /Total major crimes/ Crime rate*/ Violent rate* / Murder /Rape /Robbery /Assault/ Burglary /Domestic violence/ Bias crime/ Police force The cut and paste for each town was awkward. I posted the total crime rate for each, not the violent crime. Somewhere deep in this site, there is a post where we are listed as number three in violent crime the county. I cannot find that post or the source of that specific post. It had appeared in the APP.
