FREEHOLD — Think you have what it takes to be an "Idol"? Prove it.
Talented warblers are expected to once again flock to Freehold today, when the borough's popular singing competition, "Freehold Idol," begins its third season.
The field of competitors promises to be even wider this year as a new division for older performers has been added. There will now be two divisions: one for singers between 15 and 22, another for singers 23 and older.
Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesdays through August 12 in front of the Hall of Records, at the corner of Main and Court streets. Winners in each division will be chosen weekly.
Winners in the younger division will compete against one another August 19. Finalists in the second division will have their chance August 26.
First-place victors will receive $500 and recording time. There will also be cash prizes for second and third-place winners, said Richard Gatto, chief executive officer of the contest's sponsor, Downtown Freehold (also known as the Freehold Center Partnership).
Applications can be found at www.downtownfreehold.com, or at the partnership's headquarters, 10 East Main Street.
