hub.gmnews.com/news/2009/0521/front_page/012.htmlShore culture is focus of exhibit FREEHOLD — Explore aspects of shore culture that developed in Monmouth County at the Monmouth County Historical Association's "By the Sea" exhibit at the main museum and library in Freehold Borough. The exhibition features a boardwalk showcasing an early wicker boardwalk cart from Asbury Park and a variety of period costumes. Other items on display include: • The guest register, flatware and serving pieces from the Hotel Panacci. • A croupier's chair from Daley's Gambling House in Long Branch. • A rare stock certificate for shares of Long Branch's Iron Pier, built in 1878. • Silk and wool bathing costumes from the 1920s • Turn-of-the-century glassware and ceramic souvenir pieces from the George H. Moss Jr. Collection. • Graphic images and photographs illustrating the history of lifesaving in the area. These and other objects reflecting the Victorian Era, proper attire, area entertainment and diversions, communities and clubs, business at the shore, and lifesaving will be on display now through June. The Monmouth County Historical Association's museum and library is at 70 Court St. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library is open Wednesday through Saturday.
