With what I am about to write, I am NOT playing any blame game. But, boy, do I have questions.
Every year for the past several years, the county gives out grants to municipalities to be used for open space and recreation. I know that our rec commission is aware of this.
Today I was reading a county news letter with an article about this grant program. This past round of grants ranged from twenty thousand to over two hundred thousand dollars.
I did not know, there are only seven municipalities in Monmouth County who have not received grants. Guess what? Freehold borough is one of them! I find this stat amazing. We are the county seat! One would think that since we have lost several tax ratables to the county, we could at least get some recreation money.
And we need that money badly. I have said before, our rec commission is doing an awful lot with very little. Recreation is vital to a town. This is an area where residents need to support the commission. I hope they will get this grant in the next round.
