Last September's inaugural Youth Flag Football was a total success with over one hundred Boys and Girls participating. Late summer 2009, NFL Flag Football will be returning for our second season.
The Freehold Borough Flag Football League, is affiliated with the National Football League and has the support of the Freehold Borough Recreation Commission. The league is planning a ten week game schedule with the first games kicking off the first Saturday in September, 2009 at Liberty Park.
NFL Youth Football programs like our Flag Football league, has an essential presence in all 32 NFL markets and beyond. It is vital for Parents to know that the NFL completely supports a fulfilling, gratifying and a completely positive experience for all participant children as well as for the adults who guide them.
“ NFL Flag Football programs help participants enjoy the NFL experience every time they step on a field. Freehold Borough's NFL FLAG league gives youngsters the chance to be an official NFL player as they discover the values of teamwork and sportsmanship,” said League Founder Vincent Hynes.
“There had not been an organized Football Program available to the boys and girls of Freehold Borough till the start of the Freehold Borough NFL Flag Football League last fall 2008. Our goal is to teach children basic football skills like passing, catching, running the football and scoring touchdowns. Games are conducted without physical contact between defensive and offensive teams. Our league is totally focused on sportsmanship, and having completely safe, fun time on the field!” Hynes adds.
“Borough children can find opportunities to participate in Little League Baseball every spring. Plus each winter children take part in Colonial Basketball, and everywhere you turn there is soccer. Existing Football programs outside the Borough, can be very expensive and some programs encourage a very physical game, which our league does not condone.” explains League Board member Ted Miller.
“It is great to have a Football program in the Borough, that will expose Borough children to football basics. NFL Flag Football strive's to keep play safe and sane while keeping games totally fun to play and watch. One hopeful result is the potential to inspire growing interest in High School Junior and Varsity High School Football programs with Borough children who would otherwise not been exposed to a youth football program. Freehold has a growing football legacy with one resident earning a Super Bowl Ring and our 2008 state Championship Borough High School Football team. Not many towns in the state that can make that claim” Miller concluded.
Boys and Girls age 8 through 14 are invited to sign up for the Freehold Borough NFL Flag Football League on April 18th, and April 25th. Freehold Borough Flag Football is an NFL Youth Football League.
