Although I understand that this is a horrible tragedy and that I will never understand the families pain and grief, I have an issue that I feel needs to be aired.I was going to donate money for this family, but a story that I heard yesterday has me sick to my stomach. It is my understanding that the young ladies grandmother went to the firehose in town and began yellling and screaming at the three young fireman in the building that they were murderers and drunk the night of the fire. She also claimed that the police and fireman let her granddaughter die because they did nothing. This confrontation was so bad that the police department was called and a police report filed. As much as I wanted to donate, it is not gonna happen now. Those fireman and police are devastated that they couldn't save that young girl, and now they have to deal with this lunacy??? It's not right.

I think this situation needs to be approached from the shoes of a grieving family member. Sometimes people need to place blame on something or someone. Unfortunately, that blame is not always well placed.
The child's siblings and mother have been displaced and have lived through a horrible event that none of us will ever (hopefuly) understand. They are the ones that need the assistance of the community, not the grandmother.

I just wish you had found a more appropriate thread to air your complaint. I would really like to keep this thread about the topic of supporting the family, and I think it is in bad form to come on to try to talk people out of doing so. And if you want to start a thread in support of the police and fire departments, I will be the first one in line to praise you because I support the police and fire depts 100%.

ka19, I'm not trying to talk anyone out of helping..just trying to give the complete story and let people know exactly what is going on. Is there a more appropriate thread? I doubt it.I personally have a hard time supporting people that would do such a horrendous thing to people that help others everyday.

I doubt it.I personally have a hard time supporting people that would do such a horrendous thing to people that help others everyday. I thought the aid was going to the two surviving children and the mother, not the grandmother? Or are the sins of the grandmother to be laid upon the grandchildren? And all this is from a story that you "heard" that you decide not to help out children based on what a grief-stricken old lady may (or may not) have said. While you are not telling anyone not to help, your statement that you are not helping and by airing this "story" will certainly give people second thoughts.

Well, now this can be the thread for Bot to express his feelings about what he heard. I started a new one for anyone looking for information about helping the family.

I meant to get back to this thread yesterday, but it was such a busy day.
Ka19, that was good how you re-opened the thread you started so that it stood on its own, as it should.
Bontasieur,Your post is certainly interesting and with out further articles etc, it is a tough pill to swallow. But, your posts have proven accurate in the past. The APP did mention a few things along the direction of what you mention.
As far as all of it is concerned, I refrain from taking sides or opining. Starting with the family, I am reminded of a conversation i had several days ago pertaining to peoples reactions when dealing with such tragedies. People will react differently when faced with these things. None of us knows how we would react when faced with such grief. I am not in their shoes to judge. I can only hope that time will help heal where it is needed.
A far as the rescue responders, I have to empathize with them as well. I have heard far more than what was in the papers that the fire fighters who responded were devastated. I understand that some may have even gone for counseling. That is normal for people in their profession and position. These guys train, train, train for emergencies. When ever the outcome is like this incident, there is bound to be pain for the fire fighters.
When in the position of the fire fighters, it is still a difficult emotion to grapple with when you do everything right and the results are still not what we want. It is normal for a person to still have seeds of doubt and internal blame, even when logic dictates that the responder did everything they could.
The date of that fire will forever be etched in their minds. It sucks to try and help someone to have them die anyway. For me, that date is 11/11/06. What more could have been done?
