With a metal pipe near Johnny Rockets (who brings a pipe to the mall???). Pretty brazen, and very disturbing. Police: Freehold Borough man attacked outside Freehold Raceway MallBy Michelle Sahn • STAFF WRITER • December 15, 2008 FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — Police arrested a Freehold Borough man who they say struck another borough man with a pipe outside a mall. Around 12:15 a.m. today, the bleeding 23-year-old victim approached a security officer at Freehold Raceway Mall to ask for help, said Capt. James Lasky. The security guard called police, and the victim told them he and his friends were leaving the mall when another man, Joaquin Tapia-Pilar, 22, of First Street, approached him and struck him over the head with a metal object, said Lasky. Police arrested Tapia-Pilar and recovered the pipe, the captain said. Tapia-Pilar was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was sent to the Monmouth County Jail in the township, with bail set at $35,000. The victim was treated at CentraState Medical Center in the township. The mall was open until 11 p.m. Sunday because of holiday shopping hours. The assault occurred outside, near the Johnny Rockets restaurant, police said. www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081215/NEWS/81215028
