www.app.com/article/20081205/OPINION04/812050314/1032Bashing of Bush not warranted It was refreshing to read the Nov. 25 letter "It's time to stop bashing Bush." I've followed the president's critics for the past seven years. The same critics of the president would continue to tear him apart had their families and friends been injured or killed in the 9/11 attacks. The president and the Congress have the burden of committing our all-volunteer forces to conflict. The loss of life or limb is the responsibility of the committing authority. Sadly, the hatred will not disappear because of undeserved contempt for George W. Bush. This scorn blinds a person from making a rational decision. For the last term of his office he has protected our country. This protection will be recorded by historians as one of his best attributes. Selfish and self-centered people have trouble seeing "the woods for the trees." W.J. Eugene Kelsey FREEHOLD

Good letter, Sarge. Even with all his Faults, Bush has been an underrated president who has acted according to the times. It is a fact that he did nothing to encourage or ask for 9/11 but he responded in kind, as a result giving us seven years with no terrorist attacks on American soil. We would have to go back several presidents to say that about any other.
Our country recently voted for change. None can blame them. Lets hope that change is not in the spirit of Bubba Clinton who decimated our military and cut up our intelligence. If that is the change we get, we will have Americans being murdered in their office buildings again. People being murdered in their place of work will not care one iota about national health care or more spending on education. Dead people rarely do.

Just so people do not think that this is a republican website (Lisa dailed in her duty on this one)... I do not agree. I think this sort of reasoning that since there have been no further attacks on US soil is not any sort of validation of G.W. Bush being a good president or not. IMO, History will be a rather harsh critic of President Bush II.

I think this sort of reasoning that since there have been no further attacks on US soil is not any sort of validation of G.W. Bush being a good president or not. IMO, History will be a rather harsh critic of President Bush II. I do agree with you that history will be a very harsh critic of Bush. He was given some hard knocks that were out of his control. I think Bush has been judged more for the events themselves. That is not always fair to any elected leader, but that is the way it is. But, it is fact that he had to rebuild both our military and intelligence, both of which had been decimated by the previous president. Regardless of what one thinks of either president, it should be a lesson to all that the feds have to make protecting this nation the number one priority. That is their primary responsibility, to protect us from foreign enemies. Granted, when it comes to national security, we haven't had a president in a long time who has really taken the right measures to protect our borders and ports. What Bush has done right beyond rebuilding the military and intelligence, is that he brought the war to the terrorists. That was the right thing to do. When we have 3000 people murdered in their work place, that is not the time to hold peace talks and sing kumbaya. It is also a well established fact that many plots have been thwarted over the past several years. Where I think most will agree with me we never should have gone into Iraq--back in 1991. Our return was inevitable. With the war on terror, it had to happen. What I don't like about Bush, Obama, or most others is that there is not talk of disengaging us from that region completely, which is something I have long believed in. Until we do, we will have many more years of problems. We also need to re-evaluate our stance with the UN, something else we should not be funding or playing any major role in. That entity is corrupt and impotent. We need out of that. And what do you mean that lisa "dailed"?

oh boy... the Keys "F" and "D" are right next each other. What I was trying to say was that Lisa FAILED to play her part.

I agree with Mr. Kelsey. I'm a bit old school and respect my President. I believe that George Bush really did the best he knew how to do. He has conviction and passion whether one agrees with his decisions and moves or not. BTW -- here is some irony. My dad received an "unsigned" letter ripping him and George Bush. The courageous letter writer spewed nothing but hate and expletives -- while failing to sign his or her name. At least the writer is not stupid, even at 83 my money is on Sarge to have laid a butt whooping on the drafter if it had been signed. LOL
