I liked the idea of creating this new board pertaining to community pride and what we like about this town. I have brought up the topic of the towns services in the past and considering that I am currently watching the town pick up the leaves from my street, this is a topic well worth bringing back up and standing on its own.
I have long believed that many people in our town take our services for granted. I have lived in several Monmouth County towns and this town is tops when it comes to the municipal services.
I know of towns that don't have leaf pick up or brush pick up. Our leaf and brush pick up is VERY good.
I know of towns that have bulk trash pick up only once a year, others only a few times a year. We have bulk pick up every week! Those same towns have to pay for their garbage removal separate from their taxes. We don't, and those other towns often have higher taxes than us.
And of course there is the street sweepers. In other towns I have lived in, we were lucky to see one once a year if at all. In FB, we get it several times a year. I recall this past Memorial Day when the street sweepers were out right after the parade ended.
Readers are also well aware of the Hall of Shame pages. There have been times when I saw graffiti and intended to put it up in the HoS just to see how long it would remain. In every case, by the time I got back with a camera, the problem was already solved. I had people mention Veterans Park on Oak as a candidate for the HoS, and again, by the time I got there, the reported problems were mostly solved. ( Although there is still work to be done there) These are great examples of all the hard work our municipal workers do and it is a credit to them to see these things getting done. Too many times these are the things the general public doesn't see.
Anyway, those are a few of my thoughts on what I consider top services in our town. I know may people will think of the taxes we pay. Some of the towns I alluded to above are small towns like ours and they get less services and pay more taxes.
