Project Little Soldier is looking for people who want to be Santa Claus to a child who has a parent deployed with the military. Project Little Soldier, a program operated under the direction of American Recreational Military Services, provides holiday gifts to the children of U.S. military personnel who are serving overseas and can't be home with their families for the holiday. The program will be run from Nov.10 to Dec. 5 in towns in the 12th legislative district and is being coordinated by State Sen. Jennifer Beck, Assemblyman Declan O'Scanlon and Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande. Participating towns include Colts Neck, Fair Haven, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Little Silver, Marlboro, Millstone, Oceanport, Red Bank, and Tinton Falls. Donors can participate by stopping at the municipal building, picking up a paper star with the name of a soldier's child and two items from their wish list, and returning with a gift for that child to be left in a bin at the municipal building. Red Bank Councilwoman Mary Grace Cangemi, who works with ARMS, said that the Little Soldier project is focusing on New Jersey because of the high number of military deployed from the state. All the military personnel whose children are on the list are New Jersey residents. For more information, call Annmarie Howley, Director of Constituent Services for District 12, at (732) 933-1591.
