Freehold Voice Dudes and Dudettes:
I know many of you were worried that I would not post in time to give you the heads up on the election -- nationally, statewide and locally.
Here are my predictions (I am rarely wrong so take heed).
Presidency -- Obama/Biden will crush the disciples of despair McCain/Palin.
I take particular pleasure in noting that Virginia will be key to this election (poor Kelsey dude) -- I was recently down there with Ms. Casual and the people of Northern Virginia appear ready to break their Dixie mentality and vote for Obama. When we were there there were countless signs for Obama. We went to an event at a local university and its all Obama.
I do not think it will be terribly close either on the national level.
Senate -- One of the few public officials even older than former Councilman Crawford -- Senator Frank Lautenberg (the last living veteran of the Civil War) will trounce Zimmer. People would rather have an old senator than a dumb one.
Monmouth County -- I believe that the Democrats will take control of the Freeholder board. This is the one race I am less confident about but I have to think that an Obama landslide in NJ will swing the balance of power.
Beloved Freehold Borough -- This year's campaign was particularly pathetic -- Ted Miller ran a lackluster campaign. He barely offered any initiatives until the final week. Lichardi will drown in Ted's anti-immigrant vomit and both will be soundly defeated.
The initiative to have landlords collect information about tenant vehicles looks like another anti-immigrant measure sure to land us in federal court. What next Ted? Hat and shoe sizes?
How about number of past lovers? How about having tenants present their past report cards to the landlord and keep them on file at borough hall?
It is sad that most borough elections now center around who can go further to the right on the immigrant question.
In any case, Shnurr and Dibenedetto will coast to victory. I get a lot of email traffic from local Dems who think this year we will witness a particularly large blowout.
The plan is to appoint Lichardi to a borough committee in the middle of 2009 -- they see him as a more viable future candidate. The twice-defeated Miller is no longer viewed as a serious threat in the Democratic camp.
Now don't get all hot and bothered muddled Brian about this information -- Casual has a lot of reliable sources.
Casually In Tune with the Pulse of the Electorate
