Last night I went to the HPC meeting for some CIC business. Like most people, I certainly do not attend enough borough meetings. I had not been to a HPC meeting since they were a newly formed commission. The following is a brief report on what I considered an interesting meeting.
There was a gentleman who has applications in with the planning board to do some work on his Main Street house, which will actually be a business. It was very interesting seeing the HPC oversight involved, and the way the planning board and HCP work together. The applicant appeared to have every intention of respecting and adhering to the historic integrity of his property. Listening to the HPC ask questions and voice their concerns was really good to see. From what I saw, this commission is doing its job well.
The HPC also mentioned that they will do a program where they will encourage and help individuals do research on their homes. The tentative date and time will be November 13 from 7-9 at the library on Main. This is not the first time the HPC has done this and now is a good time for interested parties to consider doing this for their homes. I am sure there will be further articles in the papers better outlining this program.
There was also mention of running house tours and maybe garden tours. We will have to keep our ears open for these.
Also, the HPC is seeking display showcases. If anybody knows where to get some please contact the HPC.

Brian, does the HPC have a website? No, they used to have a nice one that was run by one of the HPC members. Unfortunately, that person left and shut the site down. Maybe with some luck they will get a new one up eventually.
