For reasons I will not go into, Lisas84 and I had a conversation on possible character assassination and mud slinging related to the local election.
It must be made crystal clear that the Freehold Voice will not tolerate any character assassination or dragging people through the mud.
News paper articles are fair game, baseless rumors are not. We strive for the highest possible ethics and honesty on this site.
We are a small town and we should not be lowering ourselves as a town. An election should show off our better side.
This warning goes out to all candidates too. We deserve the best from ALL of you, do not disappoint.
Keep it sane and keep it Freehold.

You know what...I have debated with myself since yesterday, whether or not to write this post...
While I believe in everyone's right to say what they want, I have to bring something to the attention of the site's administrators.
In another thread, the poster known as Casual Reader said the following...
"Beloved Freehold Borough -- This year's campaign was particularly pathetic -- Teddy "Never Gonna Be Councilman" Miller ran a lackluster campaign. He barely offered any initiatives until the final week. Lickhardy will drown in Teddy's anti-immigrant vomit and both will be soundly defeated."
"In any case, Snurr and the mono-syllabic Dibenedett will coast to victory. I get a lot of email traffic from local Dems who think this year we will witness a particularly large blowout.
The plan is to appoint Lickhardy to a borough committee in the middle of 2009 -- they see him as a more viable future candidate. The twice-defeated Miller is no longer viewed as a serious threat in the Democratic camp."
While I realize that most of us are able to take what this person writes with a grain of salt, he/she has consistently shown a pattern of disrespecting people that he posts about, and I don't think that this is an example of the "better side" that this site hopes to project. In particular, I personally, have grown tired of the constant altering of people's names in an effort to mock them, his choice of how to alter Mr Lichardi's name is particularly offensive (in my own opinion).
Again, most of us are able to see this poster for what he/she truly is...but allowing them to continue to post such ridiculously insulting material does not help the image of this site.
I write this only to express my opinion...I am not calling for any action...that is totally up to those who administer this site.

Andrew and Lisa,
I did pick up on that. I didn't really read the post until this morning due to working late yesterday. Your concerns have merit.
I did edit the post and had full intentions of sending CR a friendly little PM.
Andrew, you are right on about showing our better side. People should take note, with the exeption of the post in question, we have raised the bar here considerably. We would not tolerate the same behavior toward any of the open borders people or the Dems who boycott this site.
People are very welcome to disagree, but decency must prevail. Certain other sites turn into nothing but slug fests. We have moved well above that to build a true community site.
After election day, I am going to make some further changes. I have reached out to some participants seeking their feedback. I make that offer to any of our participants or readers. What would you like to see done better on this site? People can reach me via private message, or, the email provided under the guidelines and help section of the site.
