Freehold Dudes and Dudettes:
I always get a little depressed when summer ends -- I can no longer bake my hard body on the beach until it gets a delicate toasty brown.
But, one thing that always lifts my spirits is the Latino Festival in Downtown Freehold.
My sources tell me that there will be 8-10 acts this year -- I am still waiting for confirmation on what types of entertainment will be provided.
So don't be sad residents of Freehold party on with your brown and black neighbors.
Do the Macarena -- Live the Vida Loca in downtown Freehold -- the emerging Latino cultural hub of Monmouth County.
This year's festival should be dedicated to the memory of Mr. Abarca who was treated so shabbily by the posters of the Freehold Voice.

FREEHOLD — For the first time ever the Latino Festival of western Monmouth County will be held in downtown Freehold on Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month. The festival will be held in the Monmouth County Hall of Records Annex parking lot, Main Street.
In the event of rain the festival will be held on Oct. 11.
"This is a very important day for the Latino community of western Monmouth County," said Lazaro Cardenas, co-chairperson of the Latino Festival committee. "The Latino community has contributed so much culturally and economically to the region that it is only right they have a day to celebrate their accomplishments. While the focus is on Latino culture, we want everyone to participate in the day-long festivities.
"We want to thank the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders, specifically Freeholder Barbara McMorrow, the Monmouth County Arts Council and Freehold Borough officials for helping to facilitate the festival," he said.
This year the festival will feature a wide range of entertainers and acts, some familiar to the festival and others brand new.
The Alborada Dance Theatre, a troupe specializing in flamenco dancing, will be back for the fourth straight year having participated since the festival's inception in 2005. MC Alvaré, the Latin rapper, and DJ Lady C. "La Comai Buena," will also return for a fourth straight year. Another favorite, Xochipilli, a Mexican folkloric dance troupe, will be performing for the third straight year.
There will be mariachi, salsa and a variety of new acts including Veronica Kole, Maria Martino, Pájaro Campana, Amar la Bomba, Rumba Con Son, Mafia Fina, and a karate demonstration by Victor Alfonso Taekwondo. One of the most popular activities - children and adult dance contests - will be back for another year.
Several area restaurants from Freehold Borough will be participating at the festival including Mi Lindo Mexico and Manny's Rotisserie.
For children there will be pony rides, inflatable slides, clowns and face painting. Children from area schools will be participating in a poster contest. A computer, donated by New Jersey Solutions, will be raffled off at the festival.
The festival is organized every year by the Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey (Monmouth Chapter) working in collaboration with the Latino Festival committee. In addition to the alliance, this year's sponsors are the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders, the Monmouth County Arts Council, Prudential Financial, Verizon, Bank of America, Century 21, the Freehold Center Partnership, Shapiro and Sternlieb, LLC, Meridian Health, Nosotros, Shulman and Weiss, Mellon Farms, Amboy Bank, Susan Schneider, Central Dental Care, and Town Center Dental.
The Latino Festival committee includes Cecilia Reynolds, Ana "Cuqui" Rivera, Suzanne Crandall, Ann Bagchi, Al DeGracia, Yeni M. Cardenas, Diane Tennis, Juan Reyes, Lidia Daniels, Felix Garcia, Frank Argote-Freyre and Lazaro Cardenas.
