Cornerstone storefront has a for rent sign, Cafe 360 is now opening earlier. I don't know what they are going to be doing... I assume more than just coffee for breakfast.
So... all you cornerstone breakfast people has some consolation that the gap is being filled.

Cafe 360 is great. Spent the whole night there on Saturday with some friends.. We got dinner, gelato, pastries and enjoyed some hookah in the back.
Everything top notch.

what's up with the hookah? what's the draw?
I see a lot of kids with it... and if I was young,I guess I'd be there too.
Isnt't it a bong for flavored tobacco? or is there more to it? (perhaps I am showing my age by even asking this sort of stuff!)

Like any tobacco product, people under the age of 18 should not be using it. It's not a bong, although it does pass the smoke through a chamber of water to cool it down. The tobacco is flavored and the flavors are very nice to taste. Everyone is given their own little disposable mouth piece for the germophobes. The smoke is very cool, light and tasty. You're not really supposed to inhale the smoke, it's just for the sensation of drawing in the smoke and the taste. Hookah: Bong:

Either way, that is a prime location and will likely get a new business in no time.

Time for Jersey Freeze to make the move. That Corner is a great location for an old fashioned style Ice Cream Parlor to grace our majestic Downtown. "bite me" A for rent sign? I found out a little more about what happened.
Cornerstone tenants were a husband/wife. I hear they were having a tough time paying the rent and were constantly behind. They got divorced and the husband left the restaurant to the wife. She couldn't keep it up by herself. So the landlord couldn't have them as tenants any longer.
That's the story I got.
Jersey Freeze would be a great idea. Or even better yet, how about an Olive Garden :/
The space is all fit out for a food business so maybe a nice fancy restaurant with valet parking would fit in nicely there. With a liquor store on the opposite corner, perfect for a byob or byow establishment.

...We can definitely use a Portugese restaurant in town. For those days that you just have to get some top notch paella
I can dream, can't I?

The "Steak house" across from the South Street Steak House is supposed to be Portuguese, but it's really a mix ... and it doesn't have any seafood, now that I think of it.
Paella is spanish. The portuguese equivolent is mariscada. Most of the "portuguese" places in Newark, are really portuguese and spanish (being that before the portuguese occupied down neck Newark, it was spanish - before that Italian, before that Polish, before that ... ).
Whatever... I agree with your sentiments. A good Iberian (how's that for compromise) seafood restaurant would be nice. Or a nice mediterranean seafood restaurant (Portugal, however, is not mediterranean as the sea begins geographically in Gibraltar).

Iberian sounds about right. I lived in Newark during law school and would have my favorite paella from Iberia Penninsula...those were the days!

I just wanted to mention that I have heard a very reliable story which basically backs up what Ka19 has said about why the Cornerstone went out of business. Basically, when you don't pay the rent, you can't stay in business. Why they were unable to pay the rent is another story, and not one that is needed on this site (in my opinion). An interesting side note...the very reliable source that I have...who happens to know the owner of the building through other business ventures...made a suggestion that the owner may be seriously considering... I am sure most of you have seen, in the Best Buy shopping center, Cheeburger Cheeburger (would you believe I just noticed that spelling a couple of weeks ago after having been open for months now). Anyway...it was suggested to the owner that a similar type of establishment be opened in that corner location. I think it would be a good idea. Burger joint with a 50's feel...specializing in ice cream soda's and floats...very similar to Apple's idea above, just with the added aspect of having an actual lunch/dinner menu. Just wanted to share that info.
