Life is way too short and our town way too small for all this bickering and hostility. The new rule here is if people don't have something nice to say they shouldn't say it at all.
While you all are trying to destroy this web site a better and more positively oriented one is in the works at www.bettertheboro.com/ Co-Chair of the committee is doing a terrific job putting the new site together.
This is the kind of stuff that presents the Borough in the right light. We can't sell the seashore, but we can sell community! Build it and they will come...
This is a good post and a nice reminder of a few things. First, I will do something I rarely do, a bit of bragging about this site. Usually I do not do that because I prefer that people make up their own minds, but for once I have to toot the horn of the Freehold Voice.
When I look at the new NPC site and compare it to this one, I think the Freehold Voice home pages do a better job of showing off the borough pride that so many of us share. That is not meant to knock the NPC site, it is a new one, and like this one, will take time do develop and grow. And I am certainly not knocking the NPC! That concept is a winner with tremendous value to our town.
I think these thoughts need to be aired due to some of the recent questioning of this site. Different people will look at things with different eyes, but there is no denying that the home pages and the message board are loaded with borough pride, coupled with the strong desire to see what is best for our town.
The message board is, without question, the biggest center of debate. Such is the nature of the beast. If anyone thinks it is easy trying to maintain an open forum that is civil, open, and welcoming, I got a bridge to sell you.
But there is one fact that remains, this site has proved its staying power. Over two years old now, there is one common reason for that staying power. We attract people who care about this town. Many of us know one another. Sometimes that is the direct result of the existence of this site.
All three of us who moderate have been, or are, active in this town. Marc, Ka19, Fiberisgoodforyou, and others who have participated are active in this town. We draw many viewers, some of whom are shy to join, who are active in this town and care a great deal about this town.
Yes, we have our dust ups and heated moments, but why is that? Because we CARE! Right now the mods are dealing with a vengeful troll, but we will deal with that accordingly and move on. We always do. For the most part, the site participants really do carry themselves quite well.
As silly season appears to have crept up a bit early, it is a good time an topic to remember what I have been writing for two years.... [glow=red,2,300]Keep it sane and Keep it Freehold. [/glow]
Most of us are here because we care about this town and that is also why we sometimes disagree, mostly in a civil way.
AS mentioned above, Freehold Borough Pride is abundant on the Freehold Voice. I wish the new site good luck.
