Report: Springsteen to rock Super BowlAssociated Press • August 12, 2008 NEWARK — A newspaper is reporting that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will rock the next Super Bowl. The New York Post says The Boss and his band will be featured at Super Bowl XLIII (forty-three) on Feb. 1 in Tampa, Fla. Springsteen spokeswoman Marilyn Laverty tells The Associated Press that she won't comment on the report. An NFL spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Springsteen and the band just finished a yearlong tour behind their latest album, called "Magic." www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080812/NEWS/80812032/-1/nletter04&source=nletter-breakingnews

Wow. That would be truly a delight. But -- Springsteen has such an ebullient and bountiful catalog of songs, exactly how to present 15 minutes or so without pulling a tired, contrived "medley" that sounds so bargain basement.
If he knows he is going to do this performance, perhaps, with such a fertile songwriting talent, Mr. Springsteen can compose a new song especially for debut at Superbowl 43. That would be most compelling and refreshing.
