Hard to believe, but we are fast approaching that time of year again. The SPOOKTACULAR committee is starting to reach out and seek volunteers to help out. For those who may be new to town or have not taken advantage of this group of events, this would be a great year to volunteer and take the time to enjoy them. SPOOKTACULAR is a terrific event that has grown tremendously every year. Today I spoke with Karen Burst from the committee and she was pleased to announce that the committee has a new web site that is partly still being developed. The basic info is there so be sure to check it out and keep going back for updates. This site is the same software that the home pages for the Freehold Voice and Welcome Freehold use. I will, of course, add the SPOOKTACULAR events to the calendar of this site. freeholdspooktacular.com/

I am glad you posted this.
Co-Chair, Anthony DiFlumeri is about to create a website for the Neighborhood Pride Committee and it occurs to me that in a short time we may end up having a whole bunch of Freehold Borough related websites that do not acknowledge one another's existence. That would be a shame.
I'm hoping that the CIC will keep a watch on what is out there and create a master page of Freehold related web sites for the freeholdboro.org town site. That is the best place to pull everything together, because most will probably visit there first.

I know that the site is a work in progress, but it looks very nice as it currently is. I hope they the photos page (no photos yet... darn) posts some pics from prior years - with winners! That would be fun to see.
Idea: online voting for a contest???
262 hits so far. I think the website will help people learn more and get more involved - as spectator, participant or volunteer.
Anyway, great job! Love it.

I did have a lengthy discussion with Karen about this yesterday pertaining to the CIC. She remembered that I sit on the committee. AS mentioned to her, the town site is in the works. I know it has been painfully slow, but we had to wait for the "steel delivery," (to borrow a phrase from another project). It was very recent that members of the CIC were able to get access to admin functions of the new site so that it can be shaped into what his town needs. A new template has been put together for the town, but there are a couple of bugs to work out. For now, we are looking at the admin functions of an existing site so that we understand what can be done. This is a very exciting site we are looking at and I am sure it will meet the many town needs, including pulling together a nice pool of groups like SPOOKTACULAR.

LOL!!! Ever consider a career in politics, Brian? Now, you'll also see that the "wheels of government turn ever so slowly." That expression was coined many moons ago, someplace far from here. But, most of us can easily identify with it.
And, this delay is despite your own high energy level and good intentions. Like you, I also like to do things NOW, too. But, sometimes you have to wait for other things to take place and other people to do their part, first. You know what...much of the business world isn't all that different, either.
When the site is finally launched, I am sure it will be terrific and you'll take your bows, deservedly.

Just an update, I hope all of the FV visitors are also checking out the other sites that are provided. I bring this thread back up because the SPOOKTACULAR site has updated their photos. Take the time to look, this is a terrific view of our town. And if any readers have never participated in SPOOKTACULAR, please do so. The wife and I volunteered once and it was blast. And remember, if you do not want to have to search for this thread, SPOOKTACULAR and other Freehold sites are found for your convenience on the home pages. www.people-fb.com/contact.html

Another update on the SPOOKTACULAR site. They have updated their scarecrow contest page. Take look and see for your self. This is an easy part of SPOOKTACULAR for residents to participate in. For those who may not have time for the other events, consider this one.

Another successful spooktacular going on... and it's not over yet! [glow=red,2,300] BOO![/glow]How were the hay rides? I was nowhere near it yesterday. I had hoped to see a nice article in the APP, but, alas, nothing. But you are right, there is more to come between now and Halloween. For now, it is nice just cruising around town and seeing all the decor, scarecrows, painted windows etc. Freehold really looks good this time of year.

Brian, this is the fundamental difference between a privately run function and a government run function.
That is no knock specific to the borough council. It is my knock on government in general.
The Sppoktacular people put up great events. The hayride was... spooktacular!!!

freeholdspooktacular.com/ The SPOOKTACULAR site has posted some youtube videos of the costume parade. Take the time to watch and enjoy them. Cool! I just watched it (at work) and can't wait for the kids to see themselves!!! Their website is very good. And what a great idea to save some money and post videos on U-Tube. (ahem... hint hint) Anyway, and again, I reiterate, an excellently run, first class, privately run organization.

Dudes and Dudettes:
I marched in the Spooktacular Parade -- I was President Bush with a hatchet in his head and Ms. Casual was a seductive witch with a Laura Bush mask.
I have to say I thought attendance was down not like the growing attendance we have seen year after year at the Latino Festival.
Both are good events, though, and important for our town.
