www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080804/NEWS/80804022&s=d&page=4#pluckcommentsFREEHOLD — A Howell man suffered a punctured lung and other injuries when he was stabbed early Sunday morning near the bus station, police said. Police charged four of the men who they say were involved in the attack. The 23-year-old victim, who was stabbed at least a half dozen times, underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, police said. Witnesses told police the victim was standing near the bus station, then began walking toward the back of the nearby fire station when a group of young men approached and began to beat him up. The group then ran away, Lt. Glenn Roberts said. A short time later, Officers Christopher Otlowski and James Richmond found four men around the corner, and one was wearing a bloody T-shirt, police said. Those four men -- Leandro Castillo-Torres, 22, of the borough, Javier Rojas-Aguilar, 18, of South Bound Brook, Diego Otero-Mendoza, 20, of New Brunswick, and Jose Rosas-Flores, 26, of New Brunswick -- were each charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and unlawful possession of a weapon./p All four men were sent to the Monmouth County Jail, Freehold Township, with bail set at $72,500 each.

I wonder, was the victim also Hispanic? What was the motive, a robbery, drug deal gone bad, gang related, did the criminals know the victim?
This story needs a follow up

How bitter and ironic that this nasty incident takes place at the same time that one of our council members is trying to clean up the area.
I write this to that councilman, who I know reads this site. George, it is to your credit that you are tackling this eyesore in our town. It needs it and someone had to step up. You did. Your name will forever be attached to this bus stop. In five years we will all be looking at it and judging. Lets hope that the Shnurr bus stop is one we will look at with pride and gratitude toward you for doing a good job.
We all know that a mob stabbing is not something that reflects well on this town or the bus stop. It is clear that there is some work cut out for you, George. We are all rooting for you on this one.

This goes back to my idea of fewer night time stops at this bus station.

I am surprised no one picked up on the fact that this town is a magnet... Were they here to look for work, or were they here for the free clinic?

If we are going through this with a fine tooth comb, the wording is:
"Police charged four of the men...."
This implies there were more attackers, but they only were able to arrest four of the men.
This means there are more attackers who are on the loose.
Do these arrests trigger a review into their immigration status?

Good points, between the medical facility and the muster zone, we are a well documented magnet.
I wonder if those fine fellas were illegal? They must be those types we read about who are only looking for work and trying to feed their families.

Four convicted in Freehold stabbing to be deported to MexicoBy Charles Webster • FREEHOLD BUREAU • June 19, 2009 FREEHOLD — Four men in this country illegally will be deported to Mexico after a judge sentenced them each to time served for a 2008 stabbing of a Howell man. Those four men - Leandro Castillo-Torres, 23, of the borough, Javier Rojas-Aguilar, 19, of South Bound Brook, Diego Otero-Mendoza, 20, of New Brunswick, and Jose Rosas-Flores, 27, of New Brunswick - each pleaded guilty earlier this year to a lone charge of aggravated assault in connection with the incident. The Howell man suffered a punctured lung and other injuries when he was stabbed at least a half-dozen times by one or more of the four men in the early morning hours of Aug. 3, 2008, near the bus station along Route 9 in Freehold. The victim underwent surgery at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he recovered. Witnesses told police the victim was standing near the bus station, but was walking toward the back of the nearby fire station when the group of young men attacked him. Police apprehended the four men a short time later, after officers noticed one of the men was wearing a bloody T-shirt. All four men remain confined to the Monmouth County Jail, Freehold Township, as they await deportation back to their native Mexico. www.app.com/article/20090619/NEWS/90619068/-1/nletter04?source=nletter-breakingnews

These guys are just going to come back and then get amnesty and become voting citizens. Bush may not have been good on solving the broken borders mess, but now we will have no border. Some how this story just doesn't mean anything.

Reviewing this thread falls into the "what ever happened to" category for two subjects.
The first is the bus stop. To his credit, Geo took this challenge on. I really haven't looked. Has anyone notice progress and is there still an effort underway to continue fixing it up?
The second is the towns announcement that it would call in ICE when an illegal is busted for 2C crimes. This got quiet. How often has it happened? Lets face it, we shouldn't have to accept the criminal element among the illegal population. Have we seen progress?
