National Night Out returns
FREEHOLD — Residents of Freehold Borough will have a chance to meet the community's police officers in a social setting on Aug. 5 from 6-9 p.m. during the annualNationalNight Out event to be held in the Monmouth County Hall of Records Annex parking lot, Main Street.
Residents will see police officers filling up boxes of popcorn, blowing up balloons and handing out gifts to children.
Patrolman Ronnie Steppat is the Freehold Borough Police Department's community relations officer. He has headed up the National Night Out event for four years.
Steppat said Odyssey Entertainment will provide entertainment and pony rides will be provided by Ponies 4 Your Party. Rides and games will be provided by Amazing Amusements from Marlboro.
Face painting will be provided by the Optimist Club. Representatives of the Freehold Fire Department, the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad and the Freehold Borough Police Department will be on hand to speak with visitors.
"Our police department will be there to show kids and families a police car, as well as to hand out popcorn donated by Party Towne. We will also be handing out other little prizes for the kids, including balloons, with the helium tank donated by Party Fair," Steppat said. "The event is free of charge, with the exception of the hot dogs, which are being prepared by the Freehold First Aid Auxiliary as a fundraiser for the first aid squad. This event is the police department's way of giving something back to the community."
