From several different sources I have caught wind of a nasty rumor. And yes, I will call it rumor at this time.
Allegedly, there was a body found in or near a van in the vicinity of the gas station on South and Throckmorton. My sources have reported that there were borough police as well as prosecutors office present and the area near the rail road tracks was taped off.
This reportedly occurred on Wednesday June 11th in the early morning.
If this is indeed true, why haven't the papers reported? Stay tuned and we will see if this is fact or fiction.

Brian:
A man DID expire from the heat inside a vehicle last Tuesday (the last 95 degree day last week). I pieced together what I have heard that he may have been drinking and went inside of a van - parked at a local service station - he probably thought, to escape the heat. It seems that he fell asleep and expired. I don't have any official details, other than there was no foul play involved. But, the matter is under additional investigation, from what I was told. Why the newspapers didn't report on this, I do not know.

Allegedly, there was a body found in or near a van in the vicinity of the gas station on South and Main. Brian, have you been shopping at foodtown!?!?! This is not the first time a mysterious corpses suddenly appeared, but what is most unfortunate is that if the deceased is/was undocumented local Law enforcement will have yet another cold case on the books. Lets not jump to conclusions about foul play either. This may be a "simple" case of an undocumented individual dieing from natural causes, or some self inflicted demise like death from bad moonshine or an alcohol or drug overdose, etc.... In this case other "undocumented" persons may just "Dump" the body and let the county coroners office deal with disposal of the departed. This may seem crude, cruel or just bizarre however..., it keeps people under the radar who feel they need maintain low profile to avoid eviction, deportation etc..., And chances are you will not see this stuff in the press either!

Undocumented? I heard about this poor fellow too. But I had not heard anything about his race/ethnicity. Why is the assumption automatically that the man was an illegal alien?
As for not seeing this unfortunate incident in the press, I wouldn't consider it that newsworthy. It would be worth maybe one paragraph at the most.

Every year when we get the nasty heat as we did recently, some news outlets will report on heat related deaths and print warnings on staying cool. Some among us are vulnerable to the ill effects of the heat. The elderly being one example.

I certainly did not jump to conclusions or allude to foul play. Just reporting on what I hear. I feel vindicated now that I see Lisa and Marc had both heard of this unfortunate event.

Marc When I piece together what I have heard, a Drunken Illegal Alien passed out in a van most likely never giving the heat a thought and died. The media almost always spins stories involving Illegal aliens so it’s no surprise it didn’t show up in the papers.

Freehold Borough Dudes and Dudettes:
Once again SOME members of Freehold Voice have lost themselves in their rush to vindicate their anti-immigrant agenda.
I say some -- because not all of you have engaged in this.
A man turns up dead as a result of the heat in a van parked downtown and all of a sudden there is speculation he is an illegal alien -- his body may have been "dumped."
Some have called me a troll -- It seems to me that some of you are "GHOULS." -- Stalking the headlines looking for tragedy and then finding a way to blame an immigrant for it.
A man is dead -- a family is grieving. Time for some compassion?
He may have been an immigrant -- He may not have been. The importance of his immigrant status seems secondary.

It had to happen at least once in our lifetimes and that glorious day is today.
June 17, 2008. Your wrote it yourself.
I have to admit this scares me as well.

Brian, I'd like to revisit this story again as we have yet another "heatwave" upon us and we should be checking on our neighbors. But also I would like to comment that I've heard from several people that where this unfortunate soul expired, the owner is known for leaving unlocked vehicles on his premises for people to sleep in. Either way, when someone dies outside the normal parameters of his home it is a newsworthy story and should not be swept under the carpet. There are still people living in and around the railroad tracks that lead to the back of the ball fields. When was the last time the Police took a walk down there and checked it out ? Leelye

Leelye Leelye, Your right, it is time for a good reminder to be neighborly and check on those around us. I am glad you got the real point of this story. We don't need any further heat related death or illness like the guy we wrote about earlier. Brian
