Yesterday afternoon, I attended a film festival at Park Avenue School put on my our 4th grade students. Each child created a brief video about themselves, their families, recent family vacations and life in the Borough. It was very impressive and I want to thank Jeanne Holtz for inviting me to attend.
I came away feeling very good about our schools, our children and their families.
I have to also admit that I was most impressed seeing the videos created by the children of new immigrants. There was not one that did not express his or her pride in being an American. It is easy to tell that they are adapting very well, as first generation Americans. It is especially difficult for them, as many have parents who know very little English and are also much less knowledgeable of the new and very different culture that their own children are growing up in. It is a challenge for them and we have to admire them for taking it on. We also need to thank our schools for helping our children grow up to be good citizens.
Kudos to everyone involved in yesterday's program. And...as we go forward with our Neighborhood Pride Program, we need to make more time to turn out and attend all such programs and get to know all of our fellow residents. We are one terrific town with a great story to tell.

Marc,
I would bet that you are right that the presentation was fantastic. One of the best things about attending the citizens academy was seeing the work of the students on display through out the schools. It really showed how talented the kids were and how well they progress from one grade to the next.
On a couple of occasions I have seen kids do presentations at BOE meetings and that too was examples of great work that our towns students are doing.
