FREEHOLD - In the effort to foster awareness and support of New Jersey farmers as well as to provide convenience for buying farm-fresh foods, the Freehold Center Partnership has announced the third annual Farmers Market, which this year will feature extended hours, at the Monmouth County Hall of Records plaza, Main Street.
The farmers market will take place on Tuesdays from June 10 through Oct. 21, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
"We all know there is nothing that beats Jersey-grown produce and we have dedicated a lengthy program this summer through October to provide our residents with the convenient ability to nourish themselves and their families with the fruits, vegetables and home-made baked goods our vendors provide," said Jayne Carr, operations director of the Freehold Center Partnership.
According to a press release, the Freehold Borough farmers market is a current reminder of the origins of the borough itself. Market Yard was the original farmers' and tradesmen's designated commercial location that sold goods and wares to Monmouth County residents, and from which the center that is now Main Street and environs have sprung.
New to the market are Key Ingredient Market of North Bergen, Woodland Produce of Fairton, and a return of two favorites from years past, Casola Farms of Marlboro and Hauser Hill Farms of Old Bridge.
Carr said it is likely that a few more farms will join during the summer and early fall.
"There's always something delicious and new every Tuesday," she said.
