I apologize for the late notice...but there is a BOE meeting tonight at 7:30 at the Park Avenue Complex Library. The regular meeting is starting slightly later than normal (7:30) because the BOE has to meet in executive session before the regular meeting. Tonight's agenda is available on the district's web page, here is the link... boe.freeholdboro.k12.nj.us/

my thanks to Ted Miller...the ONLY member of the community to show up last night for the BOE meeting.
At least he's getting communicated to.

I have an excuse, I was at work watching an endangered species getting wiped out.

I have an excuse, I was at work watching an endangered species getting wiped out. There's a joke in there somewhere about the "endangered species" being some sort of active, non-apathetic resident of the town...but I am not witty enough this morning to put it all together...

Sadly enough, I wasn't joking. I work at the beach and the north easter we had gave us high tides. I watched as piping plover nests were wiped out. AT least eight eggs total. Sorry to take this off topic.

Not that I would have went, but other than approving the budget as amended by council, was there anything pressing that the community should be made aware of? My perusal of the agenda did not reveal anything earth shattering.

Just a little hint for future perusing of the BOE agendas...sometimes the real "meat" of the meeting is listed in section E of the agenda, "Superintendent's / Board Secretary's Report" For example...last night, we had our BOE attorney, Matt Giacobbe there explaining the ethical standards that BOE members are held to. In light of the recent story about the students at PAE and the concern that has been expressed over a lack of communication coming from the schools and the BOE, it would have been interesting to hear what the school and BOE are allowed to say by law...Matt went over a lot of that. Also, we had a presentation on new formats for report cards that the district will be using in the coming school year, changing over from a more complex system that had to be hand-written, to a more simplified, easier to understand, computerized system that will enable better tracking and take much less time to generate. A big presentation was also given on the possibility our district expanding our Pre-school program over the next 5-6 years with the help of state funding. We are looking at possibly going to full day pre-school programs for up to 90% of the 3 and 4 year olds who live in our town...a tremendous jump from the half-day programs we offer currently to a small number of 4 year olds in the district. Another part of the Superintendent's Report is always the upcoming school calendar. I forgot my notes at home, but I know there are several events coming up in the next several weeks including the Spring Concert and the school play...High School Musical. Something else which is never mentioned on the agenda as far as details, but it does have a heading in the agenda, would be "Reports from Board Members". Often, the reports are from Adam Reich regarding the Freehold Borough Education Foundation. Unfortunately, I do not have my notes with me here at work...but I do remember that the Foundation will be hosting their (now) annual "Freehold's Finest" at the Della Solla restaurant on June 2nd. This will be a "Chef's Night" where at least 8 of the local restaurants will be participating in a tasting event. Admission, I believe, is $50. Unfortunately, their website ( www.fbef.org/Index.html ) is still under construction, but there is contact information there should you have any questions about that or any other event. Adam also had another announcement about the upcoming 50th Anniversary Celebration for the Park Avenue School. Next there is always "communications from school and community groups". Last night, Ted Miller, as liaison from the FLC PTO announced several events that will be happening to help the PTO raise money...including the Talent Show which...again I don't have my notes...I believe will be this Friday at 7pm at FLC and will cost $2 admission. There was some other new from Ted as well...I really wish I had my notes here.... And finally, there's the "public comments" portion...which, since (again) the public consisted of Ted Miller...the public portion of the meeting was rather short. See...not everything is spelled out on the agenda.
