-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080320/GETPUBLISHED/803200679FREEHOLD LEARNING CENTER PTO TO HOST COMMUNITY LUAU 2nd Annual Luau Gift Auction and Dinner Scheduled for April 25 to Raise Much-Needed Funds The parent-teacher organization (PTO) of the Freehold Learning Center, a public elementary school with more than 470 students enrolled in kindergarten through 5th grade, today announced that it will be sponsoring a luau and gift auction on April 25th. The annual Luau Gift Auction and Dinner fundraiser will include a catered buffet dinner and an auction of donated gifts from local businesses, organizations, and individuals. The event will be held from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at The First Presbyterian Church at 118 West Main Street in Freehold. Tickets are $12.00 in advance or $14.00 at the door. Among the new items already donated for the auction block: a family gym membership from The Atlantic Club, various sports memorabilia from the NJ Devils, NY Giants and NY Jets, a $100 gift certificate from Gary Michael?s Jewelry, $100 gift certificate from Abe Pressman, four admission tickets to The Empire State Building, 4 tickets to a Trenton Thunder game, One month of lessons from Music University, 2 VIP season passes and guest passes to Monmouth Park, an iPod, a Dooney & Bourke handbag and various gift certificates. The PTO seeks additional donations to increase the likelihood of the fundraiser's success, and suggests interested parties consider donating goods, gift baskets, or gift certificates for local services, restaurants, and entertainment facilities. As the PTO is experiencing an unprecedented, drastic budget shortfall this year, underwriting assistance is also needed to offset the basic costs of running the luau, such as printing, decorations, music, and other related essentials. "The Freehold Learning Center PTO is proud of its long history of arranging innovative learning programs for our children and providing much-needed classroom supplies and teaching aids for our teachers," said Cindi Gollinge, co-chair of the event and President of the PTO for the 2007-2008 academic year. "Unfortunately, however, our ability to meet, much less exceed, the level of assistance we have been able to provide in earlier years is in serious doubt as our operating budget is down a dramatic percentage from where it minimally needs to be to continue our efforts on behalf of the children. Our fundraising efforts this year have not been able to keep pace with the dual financial pressures of ever-increasing student enrollment and ever-shrinking district allocations for enhanced educational activities and beneficial teaching supplies." Carrie Ruegger and Kathy Krause, additional co-chairs of the luau, explained that funds raised through the 2nd Annual Luau Gift Auction and Dinner will directly provide funding for various student activities, classroom supplies and curriculum supported programs, and more specifically, enable the PTO to once again host the annual, much-anticipated student field day later in the spring. "We are encouraged by the support we have received from local donors so far, and are certainly hopeful that the people of Freehold Borough will make it possible for us to continue the work we do by coming out for an evening of luau-themed fun and food on April 25th." If you are interested in donating, participating or attending FLC?s Luau Gift Auction and dinner, please contact Carrie at 732-978-0030 or email to FLCLuau@msn.com. About the Freehold Learning Center PTO The Freehold Learning Center PTO is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization of volunteer parents and teachers dedicated to providing enhanced curriculum and social enrichment activities to the school's students. What is the 46-family PTO doing to increase membership, in light of the ever-increasing student enrollment? And with such tight finances, are you still purchasing refreshments and other goodies for Teacher Appreciation Week?
